36 Origin PC games on the cheap until Sunday

Jul 30th 2011 11:16AM (Joystiq)
@Kai Hohiro Steam has a history of taking care of its customers. EA has a history of bending its customers over. There's what you can do, and what you're likely to do.

The DRM that puts us at the mercy of trusting anyone to let us keep what we supposedly 'bought' is a travesty, but if you're going to trust anyone, Steam is the better gamble. I'm a huge sucker for a sale, but even I have my limits.

The 'new' kid in school isn't new. We know him pretty well.

IGDA still unhappy with Amazon Appstore policies

The bad reviews based on device conflicts are a problem, but not as a big of a problem as a dev might think. Most of us know to write of x% of the 1 star reviews at a glance and rate them down in terms of helpfulness. In time, self-policing will result in Amazonians having a better grasp on how to review apps.

In the meantime, a strict device filter would cut me off from great free apps of the day that I can't use now but would benefit from down the road. If devs prevailed in convincing Amazon to make this change, they'd get a short term gain and a much larger long term loss. Free apps convince me to pay for later entries in the series and draw attention to the dev. I'd much rather see Amazon disclude very unhelpful reviews from the review score and let the community take care of the rest.

@vmenge The article didn't really mention whether they paid the dev a percentage of the list price or not. That's certainly how Amazon used to discount, they take a loss on some items for the promotional boost and make it up elsewhere. I'd be surprised if they paid a percentage of $.99 rather than $4.

This is exactly how I'd prefer an app store to operate. Pay the devs according to list, but without an agency pricing scheme that prevents discounting. Discounting is good for everyone, publishers and consumers alike.

@Banksyliveraa How many waves of zombie ferocity have you weathered on Survival Endless?

I grant you your main point, this definitely isn't Defense Grid. But it isn't without the potential for challenges.

PSA: Call of Duty Black Ops 'Escalation' DLC out now

@apsac: hilarious. =|

@Biggen: I never got too familiar with MW2. But I loved Dome on WAW.

@Xreadmore: I was a big Wii shooter fan back in the day, and MOH Heroes 2 had actual public lobbies (no codes, no invites, just open it up and the people flood in) with modifiable rules. Sewers was the small map of the game and I became famous for hosting guns only sewer matches, usually with about 20 people, but I think you could set the limit as high as 32. I miss lobbies. And dedicated servers.

I was disappointed at how big the past maps were. I want something nuketown-sized. A couple of maps on the video look like they might be smaller, anyone care to comment?
