The UI is a ripoff of a ripoff. I'm still waiting for someone to add a feature that Opera didn't come up with last time around.

I think it said that they had a monopoly over the "applications market."
And the word market is key, cause they technically do have a monopoly over that with the App store being the only venue to sell things. Definitely doesn't make it a monopoly for smartphone applications but still an interesting legal question.

@vandrook Newton launched in 1992. It was killed in 1998 when Jobs was rehired. Apple was definitely a leader in the pocket computer space but it all got thrown out when Steve came back. I've heard that the guys who developed newton were rehired to develop the OS for the iPod. It'd be pretty interesting to see how things would look now if they had continued to develop on the platform. If WinMo is stale cause of its 2000 roots can you imagine what it would look like going back to 1992

RIM's Mike Lazaridis makes the case for QWERTY keyboards on phones, says market for tablets not 'clear yet'

If you do the math hes probably "technically" right. I mean I think a lot of people don't care (I doubt the iPhone would have sold any worse with a keyboard) and if they do they seem to favor keyboards.
