Another FFIII trailer gets posted, readers riot

Awesome! Who needs to ever pay for games when we can just STEAL them! Hooray!

Man plays Tetris for 24 hours straight

Aug 17th 2006 9:37AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
With the endless spinning, Tetris has gotten easier. I wish there was an option to turn that off.

I also wish there was an option to change the music in that game. Maybe for Tetris DS 2, there could be a Nintendo/Normal theme choice. I love the old Link and Samus stuff, but enough is enough after a while. I play that game with the sound off.

Wii for November under $250, and it "won't have hidden fees or costs"

Aug 16th 2006 10:24AM (Engadget)
What I love about my DS is that I am able to play Tetris with someone across the world and all it takes is saying "Yes" to "Do you want to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi?"

No credit card, no registration, no promising to pay fees later. Just a system, a game, an existing Wi-Fi connection, and I'm playing online. It's very, very smart for Nintendo to continue this offering with the Wii.

PSP to see $50 price cut, sez analyst

Aug 15th 2006 11:45AM (Engadget)
Brain Age is $15 less than most other DS titles. It's moved 4 million units in its short life for a reason, you know. Sony's biggest problem is that Nintendo has just redefined the portable -- and possibly the entire -- gaming market by introducing the touch screen. Brain Age will ONLY work with DS. A similar game just wouldn't be as intuitive or as fun on PSP.

Cutting the the price would be just a temporary fix. Sony has found that people would rather play fun/interesting games than carry around a super-multimedia device. It seems kind of obvious in hindsight, but wasn't back in late 2004.

They're both going for the video game market, but just attacking different sections therein. I would say a $50 price cut would get some people on board, but they'd eventually run into the same frustrations that most PSP owners already face -- terrible media format and bad games. I would think it might better to address those issues first and then cut prices later. Start introducing games on Memory Stick to cut back on load times and maybe a few out-there titles at a significant price cut.

Phoenix Wright already sold out

Phoenix Wright re-released? And I just got paid?

Oh boy.

Brain Age sells 4 million worldwide

Great voice recognition? Hardly. I've given up on ever getting the damn thing to recognize "blue" or "six."

Terrorist plot results in air ban of gadgets

Aug 10th 2006 2:18PM (Engadget)
Know what's more annoying than smug ultra-liberals telling us to eat sushi and stop smoking? Crazy ultra-conservatives telling us to thank our lucky stars we can BREATHE and EAT and TRAVEL and WAKE UP and LIVE under this constant threat of terrorist attack and to deal with any momentary inconvenience. If we don't we let down our RESOLVE and THE TERRORISTS WIN!!

Note to Wii: Don't screw these five things up

Aug 9th 2006 5:12PM (Joystiq)
I've played Tetris DS online since I got my DS a few weeks ago. I have zero problems playing against people. I'm not really looking to make best friends -- I kind of just want to play Tetris. The online system works great, never drops out, and is always smooth. I anticipate the Wii will be about the same.

Doctor: 40% of World of Warcraft players addicted

Aug 9th 2006 1:52PM (Joystiq)
In it's literal definition, addiction is characterized by and actual physiological change within the body. That is, if someone were to actually be addicted to WoW, they would actually be unable to function comfortably without it, removing it would cause symptoms of withdrawal, and so on.

Being dependent, on the other hand, represents a psychological attachment to the game versus a physiological. I'm sure more of the hardcore WoW users are simply dependent instead. They prefer to have WoW in their lives but would be able to function properly without it. At least I hope so.

I've never been into the MMORPG scene. I don't have that concentration level and I certainly don't want to pay $10 a month for a video game.

Top 15 original black and white Game Boy titles

Aug 8th 2006 4:25PM (Joystiq)
I'd forgotten that Kirby started on the venerable GB, and was a very, very good game too.

My favorite GB game not already listed is RC Pro-Am. Very, very fun.

Also, did anyone play Street Fighter II on GB? What a terrible, terrible idea.
