Apr 3rd 2007 11:05PM (Joystiq)...but I did play it at Best Buy about 2 weeks ago. It was a demo version and had a lot more songs than the demo version the PS2 had (along with being different). Anywayz, Sweet Child O' Mine was one of the songs and as I was playing the song I noticed the whammy bar wasn't working properly. See in the PS2 version you can use it whenever. Even the really short holds (not the proper term but you know what I mean) you can use it. However, the way this was working seemed like it was only working during the long ones. So I was like "oh, it only works when the actual artist distorts the sounds" (i.e. certain parts of War Pigs, not all of'em). However, towards the end of the song, it was just crapping out really hard and just wasn't working to good. It seemed to keep working once you got it going, but the problem was getting it going most of the time. Also, I noticed some slowdown in the song which threw me off but again I only played one song and it was a demo, but I'm not really that worried. Comes in the mail tommorow, can't wait.
Joystiq and Engadget live at Sony's 2007 GDC keynote
Mar 7th 2007 10:53PM (Joystiq)Ok, now having owned all 2nd gen systems, I can easily say PS2 had the best games in almost every category except FPS (which Xbox won) and tied for 1st in platformer (along with Nintendo) and won that whole console war between Oct.-Nov 01' when GTA3, THPS3, and MGS2 were all released.
This announcement means almost nothing currently. In the long haul, yes I do believe a good majority of people will think this obvious Second Life knockoff is awesome, but it alone is not enough to buy the system. It's still $600 to play Resistance which is from what I hear a really good FPS, but considering RS:V, GRAW 1 & 2, and GoW are all out, it really doesn't seem worth it for that game alone. VF5 is a great game, but in order to enjoy it with a friend, they have to be good at it. Unfortunately for new players, the VF series isn't a great one for button-mashers. Tekken and DOA take the cake (however myself personally I love the more complicated VF5 system, just not how easy it is to whomp on a new player).
However, this is a vital step in laying the foundation (which unfortunately wasn't done at launch). Once the games do come (and unfortunately I don't think it'll happen this year), then it'll look like a very well rounded system with tons of options other than just games. So it's an important step, but I don't think anyone will care for now.
Also, with PS3 being free to play online, this could suck some serious bandwidth. Premium items will sell to some people, but after playing many free MMO's, only people who are REALLY into the game buy the premium stuff.
And I'm hoping Sony will monitor this for pornographic images cause the bad PR will just come crashing down on them.
