PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Killzone 2

Jul 22nd 2008 11:32AM (Joystiq Playstation)
This is exactly why I haven't been too excited for Killzone. The first game was borderline horrible and I didn't even complete it. The 3rd person PSP game, though, was really really good. I was hoping Killzone 2 would be more like the PSP game in quality, but it doesn't look it.

That said, I would classify Resistance as the benchmark here. There was a lot of Resistance that was tried and true, but the large scale battles really set it apart. COD4 was a great game, but I hate those games where enemies constantly spawn over and over until you take an objective. If this game manages to pull me in like Resistance, then it will be good enough for me.

Everything you need to know about firmware 2.40

Nice that Sony finally did this. They are great at doing their firmware updates - it's the reason why I chose PS3 over the 360.

Now, my next feature request is a sleep timer for the PS3. I can't tell you how often I go to sleep watching a movie, and it'd be nice to be able to turn the console off automatically.

Deal of the Day: 2 for $30 Blu-ray at Best Buy online

Donnie Brasco is an awesome movie. Haven't seen the quality of the BluRay as I own it on DVD, but the movie itself is a must-have if you're a fan of gangster flicks.

You'll only be 20 blocks from my apartment. Care to deliver some swag for me? My doorman can sign for it if need be :)

Star Ocean 4 currently Xbox exclusive, Last Remnant delayed on PS3

Jun 10th 2008 9:46AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Money talks. It's just that simple. Companies make games to make money and if Microsoft is going to pay them up front that's more money they can put in the company. I think it's stupid too but in business money can be a lot more important than brand loyalty, particularly when it's millions of dollars.

In the end, I'm not sure I see a win-win for the PS3 here. If no one in Japan buys a 360 and their market share remains low, they're going to be more desperate then ever and pay even more for exclusives. If sales of the 360 go up as a result of this, then Microsoft will be vindicated and will continue this practice.

The only win I see for us as PS3 owners is if Microsoft starts to gain market share on these 360 exclusive JRPGs, then you'll see Sony be forced to get in the game and pay for games in an attempt to maintain their hold on Japan.

Civilization Revolution demo on PSN this week

Jun 4th 2008 12:52PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Is this going to be released as part of the Qore launch making it unaccessible to those who don't pay? I thought that was this week too.

Only the most positive Haze reviews here

May 21st 2008 3:51PM (Joystiq Playstation)
The thing is, I still believe that Graphics don't make the game. So screenshots good or not still made me hold out hope for an enticing story and good gameplay. I knew the game was bad as soon as I got about 5-10 minutes into the demo. It's not that it's bad, it's just not worth $60 for another run and gun with dumb AI game. I still feel the same way about the original Killzone by the way, which is why I'm not holding my breath for the second one. They're both decent games, but they're not amazing either. Killzone for PSP, by the way, was really fun.

Haze initial reviews are not promising

Agreed. And I'm actually looking forward to GRiD, but I know a lot of other people aren't as much. I like my arcade racers though, and GT5 Prologue is just way too much sim for me.

The demo really showed how bad it was going to be - very uninspired overall. If the demo is supposed to catch your attention, it did anything but. Seems more like a Crysis ripoff than anything else.

More pixel counting: Haze runs at 576p

I agree. I played the demo. It's an uninspired shooter. I'll stick with Crysis on my PC, which I haven't finished, and GTA4 for right now. I'm going to save my money for GRiD and MGS4.
