Gleaning potential controversy from Konami's 'Six Days in Fallujah'

Apr 9th 2009 2:53AM (Joystiq)
I also want to say, Japanese Game Developer, butt out....

I don't mean to be racist with that statement, and if you mature up one second you may see the weirdness in it. I may be wrong, but they have NO personal connection to the event, who are they to presume that this will be an enticing game experience?

The idea seems ok to them because their neighbors weren't killed in this war.

This whole game idea doesn't sit well with me, and you would be a bit foolish to not atleast question is validity.

Gleaning potential controversy from Konami's 'Six Days in Fallujah'

Apr 9th 2009 2:45AM (Joystiq)
Dear Konami,
don't make this game. People don't play videogames to get the experience you are intending for them. (I wish that statement wasn't true, but let's face the facts, it is...)

Making this event into a game is going to make the entire gaming industry look worse than it already does to the media. The fact that the war isn't even over yet is enough to say that this is NOT a good idea.

Just imagine some 12 year old (I know it's probably M, but they get a hold of it anyway due to bad parenting) playing it, what do you think they will do? I'm not saying they will go to school with a gun, I NEVER blame school shootings on games, I'm just saying that they will skip all the cutscenes to kill people and not realise the personal attachment to "said" people in the game. They won't get it, and I think it might b safe to assume that 80% of your audience will not either.

Make something fun, not something that will haunt people.

Come February, Gamestop will shun Xbox trades

Jan 6th 2009 1:12PM (Joystiq Xbox)
What's with the hating?

I work for Gamestop as well, here's my philosophy. If you get a better deal somewhere else, then get it there! No beef! I see a lot of people seemingly blaming Gamestop employees for getting "ripped off" on their trade ins. I noticed one, to be specific, (and it's way at the top so this may be old news, sorry if I'm late on the chain.) by an author named "Latin Trident"

You claimed that Halo 3 would get you $15, which is close, but it would have gotten you $20, regardless, you say rip-off, and I say what the hell are you trading in Halo 3 for (its amazing) but regardless still shrink wrapped?!? You want top dollar back for your game and its still shrink wrapped? Then bring it in withing 30 days with your receipt and quit complaining!!!

Gamestop Corprate makes all the rules, trade in deals, and so on, not the employee at the register, he (or she) is just doing his job.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not die-hard Gamestop, I'm just there until I'm out of College and can bump up to something I actually want to do for the rest of my life (funny enough, it's Computer Animation, so I kind of hope I get places like Gamestop to sell my stuff, but heh. Time will tell)

Moral of the story, if you find a better deal somewhere else, just go there. Xbox games do just sit on our shelves unless a little kid comes in with his Christmas money and wants to buy anything just to have it (which they swiftly return to our store next day anyway).

Have fun gaming!

Gears 2 video straight from the UT3 disc

Jun 29th 2008 1:31AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Yeah, that's a little rough calling UT3 a bomb. Doesn't seem like you X3F to be so bias! UT3 looks great and I plan on picking it up when it comes out and by the looks of it so do most of the people who have read this article.

Shame on you.

Acti planning Guitar Hero: Metallica for Q1 2009

Let's talk about this "milking" thing and the other name drops some of you have been spouting, like Mario etc. If you look at Mario games, you'll notice that there is only about 1 Mario (just Mario) for each nintendo platform (excluding the NES and SNES). Then you have the spin offs like Mario Party, Tennis, Golf, etc. These games aren;t "milking" Mario, these are just nintendo's ways of making fun sports games using their flagship characters, AND these games are very different from the Super Mario games themselves, the only simularity would be the characters you get to play as.

Now look at GH. We had GH1, and it was good. We had GH2, it was even better, and whoever got to play the 80's could say that it was a small change of pace. We get GH3, and I have to say, I wasn't all that impressed with the tracks you get to play. I was playing through the career mode just waiting for a song I actually liked to pop up, which only happened about once or twice. I felt like GH has lost it's flavor. I wasn't pissed about it not having other instruments or a create a character, I was pissed because it was the same game I was playing for the past 3 years. The only difference was the "boss battles" which in my opinion were intirely useless and there were only 2, the devil was not a famous guitar player, we all know he died, we've all seen the Tenacious D video here.

Now we have 3 new ones coming out, which all claim to be new. I guess its not the fact their releasing 3 GH's one after another so soon, but it's the fact that Activision won't admit that Rockband is a formidable oponent and claims their game sucks, when in all truth, their are trying to make the exact same game. And to add another kick in the preverbial pants, their drumset won't work with Rockband, and vice versa, because Activision wants more green in their wallets and added an extra button to hit.

Another thing you have to look at is DLC. So we'll have three GH games coming out, all with DLC (as so I've heard). Why would you spend your precious MSP if this game will just be re-made in the next two months? Where with Rockband we've had plenty of content INSTEAD of making a new game so fast, and I'm still playing the game since it came out last year! I give it a whole 3 months until GH:WT is replaced by GH:Modern Combat.... which could actually be a fucking cool game now that I think about it.... So if you guys see the next GH game called THAT, then you know where it came from, and that Activision really does like stealing ideas.

So now that I've built this wall of text, feel free to knock it down. (damn Mongrowrians!)

And btw... EA is just as bad as Activision for their Maddens and such, so don't flame the fuck out of me for THAT!

Pickup Assassin's Creed or CoD4 for $38

Dec 24th 2007 12:26PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I work at a Best Buy and make sure you look very closely at that ad. It's Assassin's Creed for PS3 NOT 360!!! I know its gay, I just work there I don't make the rules. But yeah it's those games for those specific systems that they show.

Top Ten Reasons New Game Consoles Suck --UPDATE

Mar 13th 2007 2:53PM (old GameDaily blog)
I think your first mistake was buying a PS3. Obviously you're mad about the price (who isn't) and the fact you don't have a huge TV to match the Blue Ray capability. But pretty much all the reasons you're giving sound like PS3 problems; No good games, too expensive, Bluray you don't need. Well, all the reasons you're giving that everybody can agree with. As for the Gears of War comment, it's not exactly that I'm a huge fan of the nine-year old gamers that play it online, but Co-op was a great extension of the game. I'm not sure what your relationships are like with your friends (sorry to the guys that hang out with this guy), but having a buddy around isn't always a trip through hell. As for the Wii, you brought up how most gamers are men and that the Mii's are emasculating. While emasculating, true, but didn't Nintendo say that they wanted that system to be family friendly? I know my grandma wouldn't want to see an avatar that looked like Marcus Fenix, Tina from Dead or Alive, or That oily chick from Ninja Gaiden (assuming my Grandma was picking the avatar... and if she did pick those I might need counsoling.). So let me put it this way. Do your homework before you pick up a counsel. Microsoft didn't make you buy a 360, or make you buy points (Yes, Sony DID make you buy the big TV and HDMI cables) and the Wii didn't beg you to wait outside for a week to get one. You did, and now your complaining.
