Figuring out which NVIDIA GPUs are defective -- it's a lot

Aug 1st 2008 10:50AM (Engadget)
This isn't a first, actually - their 7900GT (which should be a really great card) had a pretty crazy defect -- the symptom is graphical distortion and deformed polygonal models. I tell you what, it was really interesting to be playing NWN2 and then watch my character's index finger grow to about 400 feet long.

It's possible that nVidia actually knew about the defect and then just let it sell out. I don't know that that was ever confirmed, however. I've had one go bad on me, and it has been one of the most annoying cards to get good support on. In order to get certain features of the card to work, I need to overclock it or underclock it by about 10 MHz. The last two iterations of nVidia drivers don't work with my card. I have no intention of buying nVidia again, especially now with the Radeon 4850/4870.

Dreamfall bundled with Longest Journey, at retail and Steam

May 3rd 2007 2:47AM (Joystiq)
I loved both greatly. I will say that I'm surprised that Dreamfall seems to have done well - it's essentially just a 20 hour interactive movie, the gameplay is very light (and it was intended to be so). It's literally supposed to be a game you can kind of go through at a decent clip and take all the story in. I love it. Many will not.

Final Fantasy XIII series to last ten years

To #27: FF8 had what I would consider fun game play.

Now, before FF8, being a kid, I had never really disliked a story. FF8 was the first piece of media that I ever dealt with where I honestly said "Ugh... that plot twist was awful." I'm not saying FF8 was a bad game, and I certainly don't mean to question your taste or offend anyone, but FF8's story was, IMHO, bad enough that it made me realize that not all stories were actually good. I think a large number of people feel this way as well, which is why it is so widely criticized.

'The Neverhood' may head to the silver screen

@ #1 I believe that was simply "Clayfighter."

I hope this happens, the Neverhood was awesome.

Why some gamers act like punks during online play

I always got the impression that a great deal of griefing was kind of like a hazing ritual. If you can wade through the shit, you're in the circle. Of course, there are also a great deal of griefers who are just out and out assholes.

Maybe he bring Sierra back from the dead. It'd be nice to see them making awesome games again.

How Sega can save Sonic the Hedgehog

#35: What was wrong with Sonic 1? I don't really recall any glaring bugs.

The leaning tower of Sega

To the guy who asked about the two Sonic & Knuckles: it will actually work. I've done it before, and it just acts like a normal Sonic & Knuckles cartridge.

Errant Wiimote claims second TV's life

Nov 21st 2006 5:01AM (Engadget)
I seriously do not understand how this could happen. I mean, that strap (to my eyes) looks like it's been frayed hard, and even if you are making a quick motion while bowling, you have to be an extra special kind of stupid to do whatever is happening here. I guess if your hand is sweaty then I could see this happening, but why would you ignore that? You know you're swinging a little plastic thing fairly fast toward a TV, go dry your hands.
