Joystiq Podcast 090 - Funny voices edition

Mar 23rd 2009 1:12PM (Joystiq)
There is an exchange option in RE5 which allows the 2 players to trade items. The first user selects the item they want to trade from their inventory and selects exchange and then chooses the item they want from the other players inventory. The second user has to confirm the trade by giving the other player the item they requested. It works but it could probably be clearer.

Police not pursuing video game angle in Portland shooting

The police aren't the ones that blame these crimes on videogames. It's defense lawyers, activists and politicians that try to blame games.

LittleBigControversy: Qur'an lyrics debated on BBC

Oct 21st 2008 11:30AM (Joystiq)
The publicity will bring some added attention but Sony has also spent quite a bit of money marketing the game, targeting Oct 21 as the release date. These marketing campaigns are very carefully choreographed to maximize sales and this short delay will definitely disrupt the plan. Only time will tell and we may never know if this will help, hurt or have no effect on the games sales numbers.

This just reinforces my opinion on the situation. I would have much rather seen Sony have a conversation with there consumers about the song and release a patch giving the user the ability to disable it if they found it offensive. Instead they immediately jumped to a recall and censorship, which puts them in an awkward position when situations like this inevitably occur in the future.

I think the contraversy surrounding the song was virtually nonexistant and reacting the way Sony did actually created the contraversy. I'm glad to see that some healthly communcation actually did resulted from the situation though. When people sit down and rationally talk about these things, instead of simply reacting or jumping to conclusions, much better solutions typically result.

Is that an optical illusion or is Ludwig a miniature person?

I guess Chris, Justin, the disembodied legs and the furniture could all just be enormous.

Sony: LittleBigPlanet US release moved to week of Oct. 27

6 days is not a problem at all, though I still think the situation was handled poorly.

Inside the LBP delay: A Grammy award-winning artist's 2006 song

Oct 17th 2008 2:50PM (Joystiq)
Did you not read the post? The song was released in 2006 and is widely available. There has been no great outcry. Apple has not pulled it from iTunes, Microsoft and Amazon haven't pulled it from their music stores.

You truly believe lives would be lost due to this song? You suggest I'm naive but you're the one who has obviously lost touch with reality. You're the one throwing out insults and wild claims.

How completely ridiculous. Sony is afraid of non-existent controversy and they might just manufacturer some actual controversy with this reaction. SCEE has always seems so dysfunctional to me.

I wonder how much this over-reaction will cost them? They have to create all new media and they're moving the release back into November which is even more crowded with big releases than October. Not to mention how this disrupts the carefully choreographed marketing.

This whole situation can be summed up with one word: stupidity.
