PSN outage due to 'external intrusion' [update]
Apr 23rd 2011 3:17PM (Joystiq)PSN outage due to 'external intrusion' [update]
Apr 23rd 2011 3:00PM (Joystiq)Does anyone remember Best Buy getting Hijacked and having their transacations go through a server in China resulting in the capture of customers credit cards?
Or the countless of Bank Intrusions, and the many that you've never read about or heard of becuase it was kept quiet since there would be a significant loss in client trust, and money lost to shareholders?
PSN outage due to 'external intrusion' [update]
Apr 23rd 2011 2:53PM (Joystiq)As stated before, when these problems can be fixed within a short time frame, a business has the ability to keep from making it public and sweeping it under the rug, because really? Does anyone want to admit they've been breached? And are you aware of all the security holes in Internet Explorer, and various Windows Platforms? Does anyone talking shit about SONY really know what a DoS or DDoS attack really consist of or how it affects a network? Please understand these things before calling a network as big as SONY's or any other major business shitty, and actually think that paying for a service will magically make it more secure. If Microsoft was so hack proof, ppl wouldn't be pirating Windows and Microsoft Office Installations as much as they do.
PSN outage due to 'external intrusion' [update]
Apr 23rd 2011 4:17AM (Joystiq)There is also a Media Black Out that businesses do to hold back information as to whats going on in an attack so that they can gather information on the attack. Banks do this alot, which is why you don't hear about attacks on banks to often becuase they can remedy the issue in time (36 hours generally) and not freak out their customers or investors about an intrusion (basically cover it up.)
This can happen to anyone even XBOX Live, any major Bank, or Business. If you're smart enough, you'll look up a tool kit called Dangerous Kitten and see how easy it is to carry out these attacks. The not so smart ones won't know how to run the tools or what they do in the first place, and just trash talk SONY or anyone else who was an unfortunate victim in CyberTerrorism.
