But seriously hough it would probably be cheaper to raise the original PS3 from the depths of the North Atlantic than buy one from the shops in november, hahaha.
Microsoft are trying to replace Nintendo, not Sony. As for any alliance between the 2 forget it, MS dont need Nintendo.
I dont agree with the critisism sony has recieved i.e. the price of the PS3. As Ken Kutaragi rightly says it is actually "probably too cheap". I know a lot of you are saying- "we dont want a bluray player or a super computer, we just want a games console". The thing is we will need bluray in a couple of years time as games are going to out-grow the existing DVD format, including DVD9 or whatever its called. What we have seen so far from both the Xbox 360 & the PS3 is just the tip of the iceberg. Games arent going to just look prettier, they're going to get a lot bigger in terms of content & a lot more complicated - and that means a lot more space. Also we will NEED a Hardrive, more than one too!
You also have to realise that 'console gaming' is changing -has been changing over the last 10 years. Before then it was the spotty kids in the bedroom on their commodre 64's or a bunch of brats fighting over a SNES in the living room, Not so anymore.
Everyone now plays on a Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo except maybe the dog or grandma. Because adults are more complicated & are harder to please than children, so Games Consoles are going to have to do a lot more then just provide increasingly pretty & complicated games. Obviously the people at Sony & Microsoft are smart enough to recognise this, hence the super equiped/featured PS3 & Xbox 360. Because in the next few years we will be browsing the web, downloading music, movies, GAMES, sharing them & loads of other stuff that i'm not even smart enough to imagine -all through the little box (or big bread bin ;> @ Sony) in the living room.
Sony will continue to dominate the Games Console/Livingroom entertainment market with the PS3 - its expensive yes, but so too are TV's, HD-DVD/blu-ray players, & Women*. Its not kids buying this stuff with their pocket money anymore, its big buisness ($30 billion a year industry). Microsoft will consolidate their position with the 360, & probably increase their market. Unfortunately it will be at the expense of Nintendo. Ahhh the big N what is to become of you. I'm afraid that Nintendo are firmly stuck in the past. Again they are making a 'under powered' console for the kids & as a result their share of the gaming/livingroom entertainment market is going to be limited.
Conlusion: Sony & Microsoft are evolving & adapting to the changes in the entertainment industry. Nintendo's fate however is less certain.
Nintendo is like an animal that has specialised itself to an environment & that environment is now changing.
There is no way Sony will release a BluRay-less PS3. They own bluray & want as many people as possible to adopt it, so supplying a cheaper PS3 without the bluray would not be a good idea from that perspective.

"Sony has been PROMISING us 1080p from the PS3. If the only 1080p games we get are PS2-level games, then I won't be alone in feeling gypped."
PS3 has not even been released yet & the stuff we have seen so far are just demo's or real-time footage. I suggest u wait until the games are finished & the console is released proper before making stupid comments like that.
1.The Wii in terms of performance is Last-Gen! 2.Wii know how much the PS3 & Xbox 360 cost, why not Wii? Because maybe it wont be as cheap as we all have been led to believe. 3.Same old games, Zelda, Metroid Prim, urmm Mario cart, oh wait...no urr Mario, Mario.
Wii-off Nintendo & stop trying to sell that repackaged Gamecube, Nintendo fanboys are not that stupid........are they?
How different inside is the Wii from the Gamecube? I wander????
So what, I walk the streets and I only charge $5 per hour. Only yesterday I managed to persuade 10 big negro men (who were saving for PS3's) to part with their money and give me a good seeing too instead.....all for u my son!
$900 my arse - when ps3 is released it will cost roughly the same as the xbox 360. The Xbox fanboys wont like this but the arrival of the PS3 will seriously dent the 360's sales (Just as PS2 did to the Sega Dreamcast, which incidentely had a head start to!) And it wont be because of Blue-Ray or superior specs either - it will be the PLAYSTATION brand that does it in the end. Its got street cred & its considered cool to the younger generation. Unlike Xbox which has a pussy, geeky image. I know this probably sounds stupid to people over 30 but stuff like this really counts, Kids huh!
If the PS3 is to be released in 2007 - Good for me! I cant afford a games console at the moment anyway.
It seems Sony are being bashed for focusing on getting the PS3 absolutely right before releasing it - unlike Microsoft who rushed the 360 & made a meal of it.
I just hope that in the face of all this Anti-Sony Propaganda, that Sony dont decide to call it a day after the PS3. Sega gave up didn't they!
