Joyswag: Duke Nukem Manhattan Project (Party like it's 2002!)

Mar 10th 2009 12:54PM (Joystiq)
I just don't see the viability of digital distribution and online markets. Why would anyone want to give up a hard copy they can store on a shelf? Plus, everyone would like have to have broadband internet. No way you can make that work. Look at how Dreamcast failed, and now Microsoft wants to try?

I think the first incarnation of it all will be a fad, but who knows where it will be in 2015.

Roll up your pants, the Flood confirmed in Halo Wars

Oct 9th 2008 3:37AM (Joystiq)
Actually, Starcraft is an incredible rip off of Warhammer 40k, made by the same company which makes Warhammer Fantasy Battle, which interestingly enough, has a shocking number of similarities with Warcraft. Oh, and if you really wanted to actually complain about The Flood being a rip off, you'd be better off pointing towards the Sci-fi novel Starhammer.

You can't even try to make a statement on the Gameplay in this fashion, since you have absolutely no idea how the Flood Faction will play. More so, you cannot make any claims that it's ripping off Starcraft's "tri-fecta" style since the 3 factions have existed since the very first days of the original Halo. Thus, it makes perfect sense to throw them in the game together. Hell, until yesterday, there was very little indication they would be in the game at all, at least in playable form. You're just trying to claim that this RTS is ripping off Starcraft. (Because only Starcraft can have 3 separate alien races based on highly prevalent story tropes)

Blizzard has been ripping stuff off since day 1. Thankfully they manage to make decent games. I hope this shows you not to play the "who did what first" game, because in the end, you'll usually come out with nothing gained.

Appreciate a title for what it does. Just because a story plot point is a little well tread, or is a very common theme, doesn't make it inherently inferior. If you ever visited TV Tropes, you'd quickly realize just how rehashed every plotline in existence ever is.

Start complaining when shit gets TOO derivative.

A slightly faded old Painting of a 18th century sailing ship. Dark faded wood border, grey and dark blue paint tones around the brown and tan of the ship.

Fanswag: win a custom Mass Effect Xbox 360 Elite [update]

Mar 18th 2008 3:01PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Getting a Elite Mass Effect Console would mean that my Older Brother could finally have a 360, and play COD4 online. The guy works all the time, needs to have some fun.

Bungie drops Halo 3 March Playlist update

Mar 6th 2008 12:05AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Newsflash: Alot of great Multiplayer games came out this year. Stop acting like you're surprised when popularity between titles wanes and grows in strength.

never mind time suckers like Mass Effect, Oblivion:GOTY or even ye old Bioshock.

If I decide I want to play Team Fortress 2 *le stab/F**CKIN SPY*, I'll go do that. If I feel a pang of longing for leveling up in COD4, I'll go play that. If I feel like playing with some buddies in Halo 3, or goofing off in Forge, I'll go do that.

They're all great games, and the only thing that really determines my time distribution is 1) What I feel like, 2) Where my friends are, 3) If there's new content or things to experience.

Thus, Halo 3 is going to receive my full attention this weekend as I enjoy Grifball, and know my friends are going to be on.

Yahtzee showers praise on Call of Duty 4

Feb 6th 2008 7:49PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I liked COD4. It's a good game.

The only flaw that truly frustrated me was that the game chose to throw a million respawning baddies at you, with gameplay focused on terrain control. That works for the majority of the game, except for certain situations where it turns into utter pain. Like the inside of the TV station.

That said, COD4 also handled modern day world politics much more tastefully than Yahtzee ever could.

Voice recognition controllers really listen

Just because this technology presents one possible use doesn't mean it's an invitation to begin a rant on personal philosophy. No one really cares what you think on a non-gaming related subject. The assertion you try to present doesn't even come across as relevant to this discussion.

This Demo shows the possibilities of Voice technology for gaming in the near future, and how it not only could make gaming new and exciting, but also be of huge benefit to those who have been crippled in any manner or form.

In a sense, you're right. There ARE possibly millions of children who could be benefitted by this technology. They're in hospitals across the world trying to recover from a traumatizing wound, or are in their homes trying to cope and regain functionality in their daily lives. Technology like this could speed up the recovery process and help ease the trauma of losing a limb, for all age groups.

Whether you lost fingers in a Boating accident, had your hand crushed in a construction project, were have a deformity caused by disease or genetic flaw, or had your hand blown up by a "dud" firework on the 4th of july (causing intense nerve and tendon damage and damaging the bone), this technology presents one possible alternative for these people so that they can keep enjoying gaming.

Taking a potshot on what was meant as a harmless example and expecting to not get called on it was wrong. You should know better than to make comments like that. It either proves you are a troll, or serves as an indicator of your maturity, whether physical or emotionally.

...and trying to act like a Martyr with the cliche "Vote me down, I don't care, I'm right and you're wrong" bullshit...come on, grow up. Defend your arguments like a man, or get off the internet.

Of course, because simply commenting on how amputees could use this is suddenly a political bitch fest. It's completely unrelated.

You make me sick. It's perfectly logical and reasonable to think of how useful this would be for amputee victims, whether they were incapacitated by an accident or war.

People trying to make everything political shouldn't be commenting on message boards or blogs.

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete trailer

Dec 19th 2007 4:08PM (Joystiq)
Advent Children was a disservice to Final Fantasy 7, and the fact that they're remaking the film is further proof of how far Square-Enix has fallen.

This whole practice of remakes even extends to film. HOW GOD-DAMNED RIDICULOUS IS THAT?

I disliked it when it came out, as it offered nothing redeeming in terms of cinema or new content to FF7. When will people get off their hard on for FF7, and realize it's not that deep of a game? There is no profound message or meaning, no deeper subtext to be explored. Everything Square-Enix has done here is simply hack and paste maneuver.

As a film, it's pacing is frenetic and discomforting as it avoids following any sort of traditional structure or narrative. Instead it feels like a bunch of action scenes taped together with scenes of Cloud in emotional duress. Then, suddenly, there's a giant sephiroth fight scene out of no where (because they HAD to fit him in somehow) that seems to feel more at home in the unrealistic hyper action of DBZ than any sort of world in a realistic fashion. Then BAM the movie is effectively over.

I've had nothing but venom for this film since I saw it when it came out. I'll continue to do so for it's 5 remakes down the road.
