Having lived in Germany six years and traveling around Europe. I know that they have different dialects in different area's. It is like someone from the west coast of US going to Alabama or New Orleans. They may speak English, but you may not understand them. Austrian's speak German, but it is very different than the Swiss german and the german of Germany. I see nothing wrong with nobamy saying Austrian in his speach, because he most likely didn't know the correct term in the austrian german dialect.
