the many of us that aren't at e3 aren't really fit to comment, but from half a country away, i must say i'm impressed with what nintendo has shown so far. nevertheless, i understand what reggie was saying in the conference - the whole "playing is believing" bit. much like ddr, donkey konga, guitar hero, et al, once people (non-gamers and gamers alike) step up to a Target kiosk and try out ExciteTruck or Metroid Prime 3 the whole thing will make sense. however the wiimote has to actually function, and from what you guys have said, that's still somewhat suspect. i'm also glad that joystiq has been able to remain slant-free on their coverage of the event, perhaps being even too critical of sony, of whom i am not a fan. IGNWII is just a love-fest.
yeah, i forgot to mention the controller - total letdown. i was excited for the possibilities of the boomerang, but now they've decided to keep it going with the tired old dual shock. still can't get into the partitioned d-pad, the quad shoulder buttons, or the small handles. in terms of overall console design, sony kind of dropped the ball. then again, the thing probably has to be about 60% heat sink. NEVERTHELESS i'm anxious to finally see killzone 2 in action, as well as the next-gen versions of the "Big 3" sony platformers.
wow, that really divides up the console wars in VERY interesting ways, although i do have to question sony's idea of including every single possible bell and whistle. that extra minimum $100 over an xbox360 is going to be tough to justify (irregardless of all the extra stuff sony has tacked on for that cost), especially since microsoft should be dropping the price $30-50 on the 360 in the next six months. the price doesn't change my purchase decisions (wii on launch day, xbox after price drop), but it proves once again that sony has invested alot in the continued explosive growth of the games industry and the media-centric living room idea. i wish them luck.
all this ad shows is that ATTITUDE needs to be brought back. you guys remember attitude? listenin to kris kross and breaking into your sisters diary while chewing bubble tape and not listening to your parents? yeah!
