In-flight iPhone snaps Space Shuttle launch

During decent, they obviously didn't listen to the message to turn off all personal electronic devices. I wonder if they uploaded to twitter while still airborne.

Rumor: Evidence for a Castle in the 'iCloud' for Lion

There is a castle on a cloud,
I like to go there in my sleep,
Aren't any floors for me to sweep,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a room that's full of toys,
There are a hundred boys and girls,
Nobody shouts or talks too loud,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

There is a lady all in white,
Holds me and sings a lullaby,
She's nice to see and she's soft to touch,
She says "Cosette, I love you very much."

I know a place where no one's lost,
I know a place where no one cries,
Crying at all is not allowed,
Not in my castle on a cloud.

Apple Xcode magazine template could streamline iPad publishing

Mar 14th 2011 4:09PM (TUAW.com)
Love this idea. I don't have a magazine - I'm a college adjunct professor. I once developed all my material and made handouts. Some of my colleagues sell their material through the college store. I have made my content available on a class website - still when making 9 grand / year it would be nice to be able to have the benefits of digital distribution with the profit possibilities.

Install iMovie on a 1st-generation iPad

Now how about finding a way to mirror screens and project out universally on ipad 1.0 running 4.3

What would convince you to buy iPad 2?

Dec 13th 2010 6:06PM (TUAW.com)
Video out cloning across the OS. I'm a teacher that would like to project internet, google docs, and educational apps. I brought the vga dongle, but it only works in select apps like keynote or photo slideshow - not in the elements periodic table or any apps i purchased with intent to use in the classroom.

Secondly, the ability to annotate any screen a la smartboard or john madden would make it the dream tool.

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls offer 16GB Wi-Fi iPad for $399

Nov 20th 2010 2:23PM (TUAW.com)
Went to four local locations yesterday that were along my commute. The first store didn't receive any, but the manager referred me to the two locations that did. Went to the next one named and they sold out in the first 30 minutes of sale on Wednesday. The other store is likely holding back stock until black friday as the sales associate I spoke to did not answer questions directly and looked as though I knew a secret that I was not supposed to know.

Real-life iPad: Presenting with an iPad, Keynote, and VGA connector

Apr 9th 2010 3:28PM (TUAW.com)
I asked at my local store on launch day - they told me then it did not work with ipod touch / iphone. Being a teacher, there are some ipod apps that I would like to project as well (Molecules, Brain Tutor 3D, ePocretes, Speed Muscles etc). Unfortunately the wifi connection to the laptop is glitchy and does not project out from many third party apps.

Maybe it will work in the future - since Steve showed it working in yesterdays OS 4.0 keynote.

First Look: SketchNotes for iPad

I've been looking forward to something like this for the entire operating system. I'm a teacher and I would like to use my ipad in a way that's similar to the smartboard software works with their symposium touch screen monitor.

Calling attention to parts of the screen with highlighting or writing can be great when showing slideshows, or if you want to write the answer overtop of a digital copy of the homework to review answers.

US Government: iPad and other smart mobile devices may strain networks

This was just a microcosm, but it's what we can expect to be commonplace at the end of the decade.

US Government: iPad and other smart mobile devices may strain networks

Feb 3rd 2010 10:35PM (TUAW.com)
I work at a large highschool. We had a network with about 400 computers and the network was fine. Now nearly every student has an internet connected device and I don't think it's an underestimation to say we now have 1,600 devices on our network. (we have 2,300 students). Our network now crawls. Thankfully there can be guest restrictions, and MAC address filtering on our IT side to help, but still it is pathetic that my slow DSL connection works better than the school's T1.
