Hot Women (We Suspect) Pretend to Be Geeks for Fame and Fortune

Oct 29th 2010 6:33PM (Asylum)
Exactly. Congrats to you, author, you see the empresses new clothes, or lack thereof. These shrews are exactly the kind of women who derided girls like me mercilessly for liking all things geek back in the days when nerd meant something negative. After the dotcom phenomenon associated nerd-dom with money *SURPRISE* you see bimbos "slumming in geekville" for PR. And the brigade of clueless nerd men who froth at the mouth to defend these harpies, well, it's a betrayal to your own kind. You are now no better than jocks or douches, because at the end of the day, you're all trying to bang the cheerleader. Grow a pair (of cerebral folds) and look beyond the vapid whore with the spray tan balancing a PS3 controller on her cooch in a magazine.

I need this Xbox so that I may fully examine Leoneidus...erm...I mean all the gorgeous matte paintings in HD. :P

Visually, the oracle scene was beautiful, but I gotta go with the first encounter with the mutant Persian "immortals." I imagine costume masks like that coupled with rampant superstition could give you an edge in battle.
Wait, I change my mind... the lobster man decapitation. Yeah, that rocked.

SXSW: Getting Girls Into The Game: Designing and Marketing Games for Female Players

@51

I think the reason girls really like games where you can create your own character is becasue it gives you the option to play as a female. Granted, there are games out there with a feamle main protagonist but *most* of them are wearing a tight tee-shirt and hotpants or golden pasties. I understand guys like that stuff, I gotta say I played Butcher Bay becasue I didn't mind the view of Vin Diesel's guns, so I understand if you're gonna be staring at someones butt for 5 hours might as well be a sexy butt. However, if 90% of male protagonists were wearing nothing but pastel bannana hammocks on the packaging and in the game, I doubt many dudes would wanna be seen in line at best buy with that box.

It's probably just that games don't get adspace in places a large percentage of females look. I'd be willing to bet the huge surge in sales of the Wii has to do with all the airtime they bought over the holidays on the Food Network, Lifetime, and HGTV. Not that that's the only place to advertise to women, but I'm guessing not a lot of ladies are viewing Spike TV or reading Maxim. Also, alot of games are marketed in the same way as Axe body spray. The ladies know it's not for them on account of miss Mc-boobie-bobber on the package or commercial. I could see a lot more women picking games off the shelf for perusal if the box didn't look like softcore cosplay porn.
