PSN Thursday: Were you waiting for the Uncharted 2 demo?

Feb 3rd 2010 12:47AM (Joystiq)
Has anyone snagged Hi-Octane? If so, how did it play? I had the game when it was a new release on the PS1. It was so early in the PS1 development cycle that it came in a big box not a jewel case; the lack of familiarity with the new machine showed. It performed really terribly--I think it may have had a framerate of 16 FPS. It pre-dates 3d graphic chips. I also had the PC version, which initially was horrible but when I went from a 486/25 to a Pentium/90, well, the processing power compensated for the lack of 3d graphics code and it became playable! And it was fun! It had good tracks and a fun set up. It's your basic futurist racing shooter. Without this game, ExtremeG and Wipeout might not have been made.

So, I'm a little curious if the version on the network is actually playable. I think the graphics might be ok, though a little crude, for a PSP title.

Broken Sword creator working on potential movie version

Alternately, the PC version is available on Good Old Games.

I'm actually torn. I have this game in its original PC release version (as "Circle of Blood") and got about half way through before either getting stuck or bored. I can't remember which! It feels kind of weird to think about buying a new version of it just so I can play it on my WinXP system.

Master Chief. He'll kill me when he finds out I never played his other games.

Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'

Mar 25th 2007 11:55PM (Joystiq)
I once was given for Christmas, "Final Fantasy IX"
for PS1 that was sold in this way from Gamestop. Except, they FORGOT TO PUT THE "NEW" DISK BACK IN. Needless to say, they gave me a huge hassle when I took it in, "that game's open" "what are you trying to pull?"

An icy glare and an a tersely uttered, "My friend said he was sold the 'open display copy' and clearly you forgot to put the game in" got them to wake up. Sure enough, the 'display' disk for FF9 was there in their storage area.
