Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'

Mar 26th 2007 4:42AM (Joystiq)
This happened to me at an EB here in Canberra, Australia. My Collector's Edition copy of Lost Planet was scratched, so I returned it, only to be told that there would be a two week wait on a new copy. Two weeks later, I returned to the store to pick up my 'new' Collector's Edition of LP, only to discover that it was a pre-opened and PRE-OWNED copy of LP, and the sales assistant went through great lengths to convince me it was 'brand new'. He showed me the disc and said that there were no visible scratches on the surface, but panicked slightly when he DID find a scratch and when I pointed out there was a human hair on the disc! Even the free Collector's Edition Redeemable Map coupon which was meant to be included in all CE's of LP was missing, and when I enquired about it, I was told that the stock given to them was sworn to be brand new and unopened. The manual was slightly ruffled too! I complained but to no avail. I went home with what I knew was a pre-owned copy. I then went back to the store the next day and spoke to a different sales assistant, told them about my predicament, to which they informed me that they have a brand new UNOPENED copy of the CE of LP out the back. Sure enough, this was true. Sometimes it's not the store's or the company's fault, it's the odd one or two individuals who are more concerned about pushing out as much units as possible and reaching sales targets with minimum complaint from consumers. Sometimes I think that certain sales assistants think the gaming public are no-brained raving fanboy lunatics who only care about playing the game and not taking care of their equipment and media.
