Skyrim's PS3 stuttering bug to be 'addressed' this month, Bethesda says

Jan 10th 2012 5:13PM (Joystiq)
@iceveiled
I hit 170hrs on PC, and just hit 64hr on PS3.... ace game.
Only seen stuttering a couple of times and im just hitting 8mb filesize (7994kb), load times are a bigger annoyance (compared to PC with SSD) but thats only really a problem between missions when your selling stuff or generally going into houses and spend more time loading in & out than you do in the location.

PSN Tuesday: Duke Nukem Forever DLC, Holiday Collection 2011

Dec 13th 2011 9:26PM (Joystiq)
@SonyPS
Maybe they should just forget the headline, story, image, and just put a list of URLs.
Its just lazyness, previously the EU PSN update article used to be half-arsed, now they just cant be bothered listing the US update... you'd think when the list is published by someone else, and easily obtainable, for the 2sec it'd take to include it, they do it. Its not like they've got to fire up a PS3 and go look and write it out themselves is it.
Yes, its easy to click a link, its also easy to go elsewhere for gaming news. somewhere that looks to be making an effort.

DICE: Battlefield 3 console maps more 'compact'

Jul 26th 2011 2:39PM (Joystiq)
@electricfuture
"They develop this stuff on the PC, then port it to the consoles, essentially. They designed the maps for 64 people. Imagine the size! Then take those maps and have 24 people play on them. It would feel like a ghost town, kinda like BC2, but x100"

Thats incorrect, they designed 64 player maps for upto 64 players, plus 32 & 16 player versions too. It wasnt like there was 1 map like there is in BC2, you were just restricted to a specific section. The vast majority of games/servers were on the 32 player map, occasionally with more people, but the 64 player maps werent used that often at all in BF2, not compared to the smaller variations.

Theres absolutely no reason they couldnt do the same thing for BF3, producing say 12 & 24 player variations, one full scale map but limiting what sections you can use.

Sure, you could have 8 people on a 64 map, but that was optional, there were smaller, more appropriate sized versions of the same map. If you had a 20 slot BF2 server, you werent forced to have a huge map with very few people, there was only 'ghost towns' when the servers were empty and people OPTED to join them, certainly not DICEs fault.

If you want, Google BF2 maps, and check out the first link, it shows the variations. Just because BC was one way, doesnt mean BF was or will be the same.

European PSN releases for the week of June 22

@Agent 49
Yeah, its a bit of a cheap shot when its took 48hrs to mention the EU store update, and didnt even bother mentioning last weeks either.

PSN Tuesday: Normalcy (don't forget about the free stuff)

Jun 14th 2011 10:02PM (Joystiq)
@Player1
Im guessing you got Magic the gathering maybe? (Think EU got that too)
Its the first Tuesday of the month when the free game comes, and often a little something on the 3rd week.
Today was wk2 (1st day was a Wednesday) so maybe next week.

Im kinda surprised you guys didnt get Burnout Paradise like us EU folks did (although i already have it from PSN store, its a cracking 'freebie' given the other full retail freebies this month). Some very nice offers in there, hopefully EU store gets similar tomorrow or i'll be glowing green with envy :)

PSN service coming back in Asia tomorrow, Welcome Back package detailed

May 27th 2011 10:51AM (Joystiq)
@Jason B & (Unverified)
Agreed, although my 'justifiable, wildly random situation' is that seeing as they lost my completely random and fictional personal details for these accounts, im collecting my 'were sorry' package ;o)

In all honesty, of the EU (UK) stuff, theres only 1 title i dont own, the US i have all of them, and Asian theres 2, and i cant say im bothered about echochrome. I'd be more than happy to just download the 2 im bothered about from my UK account only, if the selection wasnt taken from a pool of games the majority of Sonys loyal gamers are likely to already own. The only people who really benefit are late buyers and the casual market.
It doesnt justify that i'll take items from foreign stores, it certainly will get abused, and i'll be one of them... my abuse will only go as far as downloading 2, maybe 3 titles. I wont lie though, if there was 10 titles of interest... you can guess the rest. At least now i can actually download 2 titles as part of my 'entitlement' as a welcome back gift.

Battlefield 3 gets 'physical' in UK with Limited Edition

May 23rd 2011 7:17PM (Joystiq)
@Baroman
They're great GAME arent they?
EA's press statement of: "the Physical Warfare Pack will be available at no extra charge" and GAME, one of the 2 exclusive companies (GAME own Gamestation too, coincidently), suddenly they have a £35 edition, and the standard one at £30 still.
So 'no extra charge' and yet GAME decide they will charge more.
I havent looked, but expect Gamestation to be doing the exact same thing.

Sony reveals choice of free game downloads as part of PSN 'Welcome Back' program

May 16th 2011 10:34PM (Joystiq)
@Daniele
IF they get stolen and used then perhaps you learn you shouldnt have ignored the fact that you know your info could potentially be in the hands of criminals and contact your CC provider and have them change it ASAP. If you sit there waiting for it to be used without illegally and moan its Sony's fault, you wont find much pity, not least on the internet.

Sony reveals choice of free game downloads as part of PSN 'Welcome Back' program

May 16th 2011 10:30PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified)

Realisticly what value those games had a month ago is going to be limited, and now that the Sony are saying pick 2 from these 5, if you want say inFamous then you'll pick that as one of your 2. Its unlikely you'd pick 2 others and still be on the lookout for inFamous.

WipeoutHD was on PS+, as i believe was S.Stardust HD for US, and LBP was a sign-up freebie for EU+ regions.
Realistically stores are going to give you a token trade-in value for those titles. I think more people will see more value (/have more appreciation) in being able to download LBP & inFamous and be disc-less, than what they'd get as a trade in.

Im still wondering what the possibilities are with 'secondary' accounts, are they free to download 2 also?? US/EU/Asian accounts etc. If so, pretty much all 5 going free. Makes little difference to me it seems, R&C is the only title i dont have, and can get that on my main (UK) account anyway, so unless the Asian side get something interesting its of no benefit to me.

EU: Buy a year of PlayStation Plus, get 3 months free

Apr 23rd 2011 11:36AM (Joystiq)
To all the 'Its useless when its down' & 'waste of money' whiners, if you had a working braincell between you, you'd probably be aware that what PS+ offers has very little to do with an actual internet service, its largely free content, early access, and stuff like that.
This isnt XBL, where you're paying for them to provide the PSN service, PSN is FREE and thats what your not being provided. PS+ isnt down, and very little of what it entitles you to is unavailable, and the vast majority of people wont have signed up for it with those aspects being essential.
But hey, dont let the truth get in the way of a pathetic agenda.

I dont know if you can purchase this as a 15mo addon to your existing contract, if it could, i'd have no hesitation in doing so. Its not an essential purchase like XBL, its optional, but what you get during that year is well worth the small cost if you like being given randon 'free' games to keep you occupied for a few hrs. I doubt anyone hasnt found value in the fee with just the content received so far. It might not be to everyones taste, but that doesnt make it a bad service, and it certainly has NOTHING to do with the fact that some sad individual is hacking PSN resulting in it being down.
