Kinect standalone power supply now available from Microsoft
Nov 9th 2010 7:28AM (Joystiq)Does the Kinect power supply just power it over USB? Cuz if so, I hope people will be smart enough to realize you can get much cheaper USB power supplies elsewhere... even just have your own plug onto a 5V/whatever amp supply!
PSA: Got a Kinect game early? Don't stick it in!
Oct 29th 2010 6:47AM (Joystiq)What a jerk move on their part. You'd think they'd just let folks into the beta, since it's probably just a few. Way to gain some extra good will from the community Microsoft.
First Kinect prototype cost Microsoft $30,000
Oct 25th 2010 12:35PM (Joystiq)In fact, from the article the number is "hundreds of millions of dollars", which sounds like a more accurate number to get the cost down to $150. The $30,000 prototype was probably really crappy. :)

Aug 20th 2010 1:59PM (Joystiq)I'm very surprised this happened. Isn't the bigger deal the fact that they basically stole something from the Marketplace (assuming they weren't able to actually add all the MS point required for the purchase, maybe they were).
Not to mention it required a code (presumably the same sort of dealie as when you get some special offer code that unlocks Marketplace content). I guess we've known for a while that some content could be download over normal HTTP (I think) if you knew the specific URL, but I would have thought there'd be some security or that the content would be encrypted with SSL or something.
Bethesda's new game is for current platforms, 'pretty far along'
Aug 16th 2010 11:53AM (Joystiq)I'm pretty excited! Was just wondering the other day when we'd start hearing about the next ES.

Aug 16th 2010 8:25AM (Engadget)*sigh* I hope the next gen will have a more open application infrastructure now that "app stores" are popular with phones; then again, knowing Microsoft they probably won't be very open (XNA is not open).
