No wonder the gaming market has become so formulaic. You give gamers, even the "hardcore," something new and they bitch about how they should have the old. Try something new.
Someone should point out that you can't use any currently existing arcade sticks with the Xbox 360 as implied in the article. Microsoft requires controlers to have their secret authorization code embedded. Old stuff doesn't work. And here's a list of companies they're currently licensing this to:
Umm, it could also be because no one knows what the price of a Wii will be and 7-11 wants to inflate the total ARV of their contest to write off more company money as advertising/promotional funds. The contest isn't even starting for months, so the estimates could easily be revised.
Seriously, contest fine print? It's like the people who look up Best Buy place holder dates and think they know when Halo 3 is coming out.
The prices are ridiculus, but I don't think you can really compare them to the Xbox bundles to show that Sony is out of touch. The PS3 costs $200 more, so why would the bundles be twice as much? Simple: the Xbox bundles still sold out. The retailers know they can raise the prices even higher, so they are.
Remember the goal in business is not to have a shortage, but to sell out every unit on the nose.
"Yes, I recall being 9...but most people I associate with aren't in that age range and should not be saying "Wii" for any reason other than mental impairment. I'll still buy a Revolution if the virtual console pricing structure is right, but I'll be damned if I say "Wii."" -GTgamer
I wasn't saying you had to make the urine and penis jokes that have been plaguing the internet to have fun with the name (I thought people stopped using baby-speak when they were 2?). "Wee" or "Wii" is an exclamation of joy, for heaven's sake. It doesn't get much more clear than that.
As I've said before, it's been a long time since I've had cause to shout out "weeee!" and I thank Nintendo for the awesome name. Be a gamer. Smile once in a while.
"Even my friend's wife who is interested in one makes jokes about the name. The name is all about getting free press from the controversy about how ridiculous and silly it is." -GTgamer
I think it's a testament to how focused Nintendo is this gen that even their system's name makes people smile. It's all fun and games...remember?
