Auditorium 2: Duet raises the full $60,000 through Kickstarter

Mar 29th 2012 1:20PM (Joystiq)
@HeyAndrei
That's my point, in the end. Kickstarter's a great idea, but at the end of the day it's still up to you as a developer to effectively pitch your game - that you convince people your game is worth funding, and that you reach *enough* people (or the right people) to make it happen.

Still, it's great that we have emerging alternatives to the traditional publishing system, in initiatives like Kickstarter and the Indie Fund.

Auditorium 2: Duet raises the full $60,000 through Kickstarter

In a shocking turn of events, being featured on Penny Arcade as "a project that won't meet its Kickstarter goal" is apparently a very good way to meet your Kickstarter goal.

Note to Kickstarter/Indies:
1) Have a concept worth creating
2) Tell people about it

If you fail on either of those, it's no one's fault but your own that you didn't get the funding you need. Kickstarter is just another investor/publisher/etc - it's just more democratic and less organized.

SSX demo descends on Xbox 360 and PS3 next week

@AnderFREAK The "Deadly Descents" are survival challenges - beating a course that has an additional hazard such as extreme cold, thin air, avalanche, darkness, icy, wingsuit-requiring jumps, etc. What's especially interesting is that if you make it to the bottom, it sends you back to the top to try again with the challenge ramped up another notch. Your score is based on how long you last/how far you make it.

Blizzard taking Valve to court over 'DOTA' trademark

Feb 10th 2012 9:44AM (Joystiq)
The real problem here is that in *nine years* (DOTA was released in 2003), despite many other titles this genre still doesn't have a commonly used name. Most of the time people just call them "DOTA games" or "DOTA clones" - the only other name I've ever heard for them is "MOBA," or "multiplayer online battle arena." And that's neither catchy nor terribly descriptive.

The (original) Steam version of AWE had the foot soldier... it was removed for the iOS port, not added for the XBLA version.

Are you playing L.A. Noire in black and white?

May 19th 2011 12:17PM (Joystiq)
Definitely playing in black & white... I think it makes the best presentation for the MotionScan facial animations. The lighting on them was a bit weird in color, but absolutely believable in black & white. I also love that it's not just a desaturation effect; they actually have it properly lit for a B&W presentation.

Like everything else about the game: really, really classy.

Swag Sunday: You Rock Guitar

I once read a list of Things To Do at College... one was "Learn to play guitar. Believe me, you want to be That Guy."

Too late for college... but I still wouldn't mind being That Guy. (:
