Gamestop shenanigans sell open games as 'new'

Mar 30th 2007 4:03PM (Joystiq)
I used to work at Gamestop and can clear all of this up pretty easily. The reason the games are "gutted" (which is the official term used by the company) is for display/security purposes only. Say for example God of War II comes in a shipment. Since its a new game it is required by the manager on duty to make sure at least 4 copies are "gutted" and displayed. Customers bring the empty box to the counter and receive a sealed game unless they buy one of the last 4. Now am I condoning this practice? No. In fact there are a lot of things about Gamestops policies (which most of the bad ones incidently came around when they merged with EB) that I personally disagree with and ultimately led to me leaving the company. I was tired of hearing the bickering and complaints from customers. Not that they didn't have a right to complain, they just did it to the wrong people...the employees. None of the employees have any say in the policies they have to follow. And if they don't follow them they are fired. So take it easy on those guys/girls behind the counter at your local Gamestop. Whatever it is you are complaining about they've already heard it 2 million times before and could care less. If you want to complain effectively fill out Gamestop's online customer survey or contact your store's district manager.
