Farewell, Internet

Gonna miss you guys. Fuck you, AOL!

CyanogenMod 7.0 now stable, released for over 30 Android devices

Apr 11th 2011 9:09AM (Download Squad)
It's not stable if you're a corporate email user. See this bug (http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=3243) that I and many others have been having for a while now, which in short causes Exchange email to stop pushing after a random amount of time.

VMware adds Mozy to its cloud and virtualization empire

Apr 5th 2011 12:09PM (Download Squad)
F'ing great. I love VMware, but this is not going to be a good thing for customers. Mozy already announced they were raising their pricing (enough so for me to decide to switch to a competitor when my sub expires). VMware is very expensive, so this means probable price increases even more so than already announced.

And also, is anyone super sick of cloud computing? VMware markets a "private enterprise cloud" aka corporate datacenter (which is NOT new). Mozy is not "cloud". It's offsite backup. I'm so disgusted of all this stupid marketing hype trying to appeal to those ignorant CEO's with buzz words.

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion to ship with cloud-based FileVault?

I'm unsure based on the article if this means data will be stored locally and in the cloud or just in the cloud. What happens when you're without an internet connection?

NYC Condom Finder iPhone app, helps you play safe for free

You'd think someone who could afford an iPhone could cough up the lousy couple bucks for a pack of condoms when the moment strikes.

uTorrent 3 alpha goes 64-bit

Just FYI, build 24520 (as pictured in that screenshot) is the (as of this writing) the latest 32 bit build of uTorrent, The 64 bit build that you link to is actually build number 24394

Mozy kills unlimited backup, time to take matters into your own hands

Feb 1st 2011 8:36AM (Download Squad)
@Aaron I think I'll be going with CrashPlan next year when my two-year Mozy subscription expires. I have about 50GB of data on their servers right now. That will likely continue to grow at a decent pace. Thanks for the tip!

IP addresses are about to run out. Will the world end?

@Karbowiak While DNS is of course the preferred method for contacting a system, sometimes you need to know the IP address when troubleshooting.

IP addresses are about to run out. Will the world end?

Jan 27th 2011 1:48PM (Download Squad)
My f'ing cell phone DOESN'T need a public IPv4 address. The fact that mine and everyone else's does is the reason that we ran out of IP addresses. NAT is a good thing, despite people that claim otherwise. Had it been used properly and public addresses not been given away all willy-nilly, this wouldn't be an issue. IPv6 is the future, but also a lot more confusing than IPv4 and the transition is way behind where it should be.
