Review: The Conduit

Jul 5th 2009 12:23AM (Joystiq)
You haven't played it in a year? Why haven't you played that purchased copy of MadWorld?

Rumor: The Beatles: Rock Band track list leaked [update: Harmonix says nope]

Jun 14th 2009 11:40PM (Joystiq)
EA's gonna make so much money on this friggin game - there's easily 100 tracks I would buy the second they get released to PlayStation Store.

Students create CRT emulator, hope to recapture that analog gaming vibe of yesteryear

May 4th 2009 12:55PM (Engadget)
Read "Racing the Beam" (its an excellent book). The Atari 2600 was developed with a CRT in mind, and the games built for the platform were built for the limitations of the CRT. Many effects that the games relied on were not generated by the system itself but by the TV.

And actually the 2600 was hardly the last system like this - even the PSX/Saturn relied on the blurry old CRT to generate some free anti-aliasing and to hide some artifacts, dithering, etc. It's just how it is.

The way the game is shown on a modern LCD is not the way the game was meant to be shown.

Protesters to march against Army's use of video games for recruitment

The only first amendment issue at play here is the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Need I remind you that taxpayer money is used to make the America's Army games?

Crytek says Cry Engine 3 ready for next-gen, working very closely with Microsoft and Sony

Apr 7th 2009 8:13PM (Joystiq)
This gen is already going on 4 years, dude. Even 2 more years would push it past most (all?). I dig my PS3 and 360, but I don't want them to be the primary hardware developers are coding to for another 3 or 4 years. If its at all feasible it'd be cool to see them write to more powerful hardware and see what they can come up with.

Yu Suzuki assumes even smaller role at Sega

Apr 4th 2009 9:07PM (Joystiq)
Yu Suzuki got "demoted" by Sega after Shenmue bombed. That's pretty much how it goes in Japanese companies if you spend a lot of the company's money on a failure. I put demoted in quotes because you don't actually get demoted - oftentimes you get promoted, just to a job where you don't do anything and have no influence. The same thing happened to Ken Kuturagi after PS3 limped out of the gate, the same thing happened to Gunpei Yokoi after Virtual Boy bombed. It has nothing to do with Yu Suzuki's skills as a game designer or whether or not he can still offer his skills to the company. It's just the way things go over there

Combat Arms introduces 'Nut Shot' instant kill

Saints Row 2 had nut shots.

Lionhead Studios graphic designer sues Microsoft for harassment

LaughingTarget's nonsense points out something important - that despicable ideas dressed up in polished and professional language are still despicable ideas. Yea, companies should be allowed to sit back and allow (or even encourage and practice) blatant discrimination. In the name of freedom of course! The fact that we are not allowed to slur people because of their race, gender, age, or anything else, is mere proof we are on the march towards the totalitarian dictatorship.

Sorry I'll pass on this crap. I realize there are still significant numbers of people who wish to return to the days when racism and sexism was acceptable in polite society, and based on LaughingTarget's comments I will go ahead and assume he is one of them (his final sentence in his original post sounds like pathetic CYA-ing). However, I think many more are happy we moved on from those dark days.

Rumor: 'Guitar Hero 5,' 'Band Hero' coming this year

Mar 6th 2009 6:54PM (Joystiq)
Didn't at some point the CEO douche of Activision say he has like 2000 people working on Guitar Hero? At some point their work is gonna be released, it might as well be now, I guess.
