Google Wave flatlines: no plans to further develop standalone product, future is in other Google services

Aug 4th 2010 5:38PM (Engadget)
@MarkAnderson

Looking back at the comments from the May 19th public beta, this guy totally called it:

@bjsguess

"I use Wave a lot for collaboration. Haven't experienced the lag issues that you noted.

Wave is a solid tool with some pretty major issues still. My guess is that the technology behind Wave will be useful in the future, but the app itself will fade off into the sunset. "

New Amazon Kindle announced: $139 WiFi-only version and $189 3G model available August 27th in the US and UK

Can we get a side-by-side with the Kindle 2? This thing looks tiny...I was hoping for a slightly bigger screen.

Palm Pre hits 1.2GHz courtesy of SR71 Blackbird kernel, not for the faint-hearted

Overclocking it to 800 with screenstate scaling (clocks down to 125/250 while screen is off) actually has extended my daily battery life considerably.

And the BGFmaps apps (in beta) runs about 5x faster than the standard google maps preloaded (I agree, not an acceptable solution).

AT&T suspends iPhone 4 pre-orders altogether, says they were ten times 3GS' numbers

Can you let a man dream? I'm aware of the 5-year deal they have...possibly the worst business decision in the history of tech. Could you imagine the iPhone on all 4 carriers? Android wouldn't have made a dent.

My only hope is that most Apple employees live in SF, and given Apple's high standards, the network quality is simply unacceptable. When you're dealing with 1M+ CDMA phones, I don't think a new chip is such a hassle (given that they already break out 16gb and 32gb, for no real reason).

webOS 1.4.5 reportedly coming any day now... except for AT&T users

Rumor on precentral boards is a new 4G palm is due out in 3Q/4Q, 4 inch screen, 720p, etc.

I agree... I *really* CAN'T WAIT much longer...let's go palm, announce the c40 already so I can look past the 80 droid phones coming out in the next three months.

@Hoo

How is this good news? There are already too many iPhones for AT&T to handle.

Fingers crossed for a VZ launch this fall...

HTC EVO 4G review

@slydernelson

They had a huge boost in the most recent satisfaction survey, I think the most points gained of the four and ahead of AT&T. They are making a turnaround is subscriber loss and this should be a boost, you can see from their stock price they have a lot of momentum.

Sprint's voice coverage is supported buy VZ (free roaming) and I can assure you their EVDO network is far better than anything offered by AT&T. I live in a city, and have never had a dropped call or anything but snappy browsing on my Pre.

OH, yea, and it's $30-$50 cheaper a month than VZ or AT&T. It makes sense to break your contract in pretty much every case if you're on another network, the savings pay for the fees in a few months time.

Verizon to offer 'up to' five LTE handsets by next May, Android tablets from HTC and friends

@kapanak
I don't get it, does no one realize Sprint uses VZ towers for voice roaming (which is free). So, you get VZ service (granted, no data) for Sprint's $70 a month everything plan. Am I the only one that has figured this out? Or am I totally wrong?

@FaceOfGenius

Are the folks that take these pics so nervous/excited that they can't hold a camera still or take a second shot? An 8MP camera is worthless if you can't hold it steady.
