Entelligence: Five gadgets that could have and should have done better

Jul 18th 2010 9:16PM (Engadget)
@xrs10
MDs were still relatively successful in Asia and were more accepted by the masses. Part of its demise was the rapid decline in the cost of blank CD media and CD burners...

Entelligence: Happy 10th birthday, Pocket PC

Happy B-Day indeed! Until the HTC EVO or the HD2 is available in Canada I will continue to use my trusty iPaq hx4700 which has WM6.1 shoehorned into this older device. Build quality is superb and is still the only fully metal handheld device that I know of, with a beautiful 4" VGA screen. Loved having CF and SD card support (as well as MSduo via an adapter into CF slot). Even have a VGA-out device for on-the-fly presentations. Previous to this I still have my old NEC MobilePro HPC device (still love the keyboard, HVGA screen and full PCMCIA slot for networking and storage... anybody remember the iomega clik drive? -- i switched to CF/SD cards as they became cheaper)

HTC's HD2 has landed at Engadget (hands-on)

Finally, a worthy replacement for my HP iPaq hx4700 (also HTC-made for those of you who weren't aware). My criteria for retiring my iPaq was the inclusion of current wireless tech (wifi/bt/gps/3g) and phone without sacrificing a nice large hi-res display. Also didn't want to give up solid build quality i.e. the magnesium alloy body.

Can someone comment on the build quality and materials used in the HD2? I sure hope they didn't go with a plastic body and battery cover!

I was wondering why there was a connect to 'PHONE' or 'PSP' option in firmware 3.0 when I was reactivating the remote play on my PSP yesterday after getting back my launch 60gb console from repairs.

Ask Engadget: Best portable photo backup / storage device?

The nexto (various flavours) have been very good... and blazing fast transfers are a plus. you can load it up with any size notebook drive of your choosing and can find versions with various interfaces. some even have USB host to offload USB keys or other drives, even.

Xandros' instant-on Presto Linux distro now available for download-o

Tried on my primary computer but wouldn't boot after I had installed it -- it wasn't liking that my primary boot drive is in a RAID configuration. I then tried to install in my first gen EeePC -- wouldn't install even on my nLited WinXP -- it needs over 3GB on the boot drive to install! Has anybody been successful in installing Presto on an SD card or a USB drive?

Hands-on with ASUS' Eee Keyboard

I'm SO ready to get my C64 emulator fired up for this device. Hopefully it'll be cheaper than the launch pricing I spent on my either my VIC-20 or C-64. With the screen, this will function like the dream computer I couldn't ever afford, the SX-64 'portable'.

Amazon's Canon SD770IS deal is much better than it looks

Just tried and the deal doesn't seem to work --- anybody try with success?
