Final Fantasy XIII limit breaks Japanese PS3 software sales record

Dec 24th 2009 1:16PM (Joystiq)
I'm going to defend lameduck in this post because I think you guys are missing the point. In previous FF the player had the choice to explore the area/map while following the linear progression of the story. The maps were created with many different paths and the player had to choose to take one over the other. If you happened to find yourself stuck with a dead end you had to backtrack and take the other path. There are other people who also like to explore the maps and find secret areas and items. From what I can gather, FF XIII is pretty much a straight shot in which the path is as straight as an arrow and there are little to no diverging paths and areas for you to explore.

Paramount following Warner out the HD DVD door?

Jan 8th 2008 12:17AM (Engadget)
The reason why there wasn't a compromise between these two camps is because of GREED. BD camp didn't want to abandon their format because the founding members of the BDA (primarily Sony and Phillips) went through the same thing during the development of dvd. Sony and Phillips abandoned MMCD and went with Toshiba's technology and that means that they didn't get a good chunk of royalty for every dvd sold. This time around Sony and camp wanted to make sure that their format won so that they can get royalties fee's just like it happened with the release of the compact disc. For me, the other issues were just icing on the cake. Issues with HDi, BD-J and DRM were used as a scapegoat.

Paramount following Warner out the HD DVD door?

I think many of you are supporting Blu-Ray for the wrong reasons. higher capacity is not the real reason on why we should support BD. It's DRM that gives BD the advantage over HD-DVD. HD-DVD only has aacs while BD has aacs, BD+ and ROM-Mark which will easily set them apart from HD-DVD. Basically, the consumer will choose the better format because they know that having THREE of one thing is better than ONE :D

Isn't it good that HD-DVD is the one who will end up being the beta of this generation. The better one once again losses to the popular one.

Hands on with Nintendo's Wii controller

May 11th 2006 11:28AM (Joystiq)
I'm somewhat disappointed after reading Joystiq's report on the Wii controller and games. But then I realize that you and thousands of attendees are playing the system in a public place where space and comfort is limited. If you guys were to play in another environment such as your living room or at you own room sitting down feeling relaxed, how well will the Wiimote feel when you play the game? I?ve also read that the farther you are from the screen the less sensitive the controller is. So I?m suspecting that in a different environment things will change.

Anyhow, my final judgment on the Nintendo Wii will not be made until the system is released. There is still enough time to work on the games and tweak them. I?m looking forward to a new generation of gaming as I?ve been slowly loosing interest in gaming for some time now.
