Jun 23rd 2007 2:32PM (Joystiq)If this game had any artistic merit at all, or if it had any original gameplay elements, then I might be willing to defend it for that. But it doesn't have any redeeming qualities whatsoever and is intended to become one of the most violent and controversial games in history, so for that it deserves to be banned.
In the end, every game will somehow end up in the wrong hands: perhaps those of a child, perhaps those of a deviant. Violent games are different from violent films in that films require you to passively watch the violence or gore unfold in front of you, whereas in games you are taking an active role in causing the violence and participating in it. Games like Halo or F.E.A.R. aren't the same because the violence isn't meant to shock you- in Manhunt 2 it's meant to. There's a big difference there that I think people are missing.
If Rockstar simply wants to cash in on this hyper-violence the they deserve the rating they got from the ESRB and the game deserves to be banned. Period.
Marathon: Durandal runs away from German ratings board
Jun 18th 2007 7:36PM (Joystiq)Marathon arrives on XBLA! That is some sweet news. I wonder if there'll be online multiplayer... Doom had it, Marathon might as well. I also wonder if they'll update the graphics.
