Looks like this could be Planetside upgraded in all the ways people wanted.

I never understood why MMO FPSes didn't take off more. Think about how much time people play FPSes on servers, and will die constantly without any preservation of their gear, or how many people will 'grind' to get unlockable weapons, etc etc etc

I hope they do this well. It seems like the economy is in place from EVE, so I'm excited to see how much power the FPSers have over making a lasting impact in the game world.

I think the real news here is the MIDI mode. I'll have to look more into the specifics, but that could be one of those 'game changer' features. If someone were to use these as a Ableton controller, but then also be able to seamlessly switch back to a "normal" DJing mode with mp3s/CDs - you could argue that this would be a 2-in-1 device. How much would people pay for a solid Ableton controller and a professional, full featured CDJ?

I'm not sure how many people would actually fit into that category, though. Seems to me that you're either doing an Ableton set or a DJ set. But hey, people are always trying to push things forward. I'm sure there are some Ibiza-level DJs doing 5-hour sets that might get into that territory. But for the moment, it definitely is in the realm of gear porn- and not a 'must have' for most setups.

It's an unusually cheap price for a good piece of hardware from a notable music hardware/software company. I agree with other comments, however. Personally I need the timecode ability because timecode vinyl just plain feels right to me. I like the control I get with physical vinyl. But this is definitely a sweet product for anyone using specific hardware setups for their gigs. I'd say this is news worthy.

Now... if only people would stop bitching everytime there's a DJ post. It's worse than the console wars and Apple vs. Anything discussion.

I came across this a while ago. It's actually really fun, and there are lots of intrument choices. You can make alot of 'normal' stuff, but there are enough instruments and variables to play around with that you can get really suprising stuff.

It's a good time killer, but isn't just a one trick pony.

Does anyone remember that Bungie franchise "Myth"? This was before they made Halo and got bought by Microsoft. There were 2 of them, and there wasn't any resource management at all. No resources, just an amount of points to buy units for your squad. In single player you could 'find' or 'rescue' more units, but in multiplayer it was just squads on a large 3D battlefield. Grunts cost less, and big dudes cost more. I loved it because it scratched that RTS itch but was quick. No base building meant the rounds were shorter than your average Starcraft match. Love SC, but it was nice to have a different kind of game.

Funny to think that it was over a decade ago.... damn.

Anyways, I'm excited to play the game. It's nice to see some variety in the RTS genre. Maybe it won't work, but hey- at least they're trying.
