In "Journey to the West," the Bodhisattva Kwanyin gave the pilgrim monk Tripitaka an enchanted headband (referred to as a "fillet" in some translations) to guarantee the Monkey Sage's obedience during their pilgrimage to India to retrieve scriptures.

In the story, Tripitaka tricks the Monkey Sage into putting on the headband, which painfully tightens in response to an incantation taught to Tripitaka by Kwanyin. In that way, Tripitaka wins the obedience of the otherwise mischievous Monkey Sage.

Just saying, the game mechanic adaptation is relatively faithful to the source material.
