The Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter also includes 802.11 a which would increase the cost of the component (to the $99 comment)

The content was NEVER given away by Epic in the first place. It was SPONSORED by DISCOVERY and FUTURE WEAPONS. Don't expect any in-game content to come for free to end users unless it is sponsored...bad business.
