After the 8 non-VC channel slots (Disc, Mii, Photo, Browser, Shop, Forecast, News, Vote) there are 28 other slots. Even if those are all NES games at $5 apiece, that's at minimum $140 spent on Virtual Console games. Damn.

The abandonment of the cross insignia was part of a policy by Nintendo to remove all reference to religion from their games ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_controversy#Criticism_from_religious_organizations ). It was to avoid any possible controversies. Personally, I think the detachment from real-world religion helped add to the fantasy of Nintendo's games.

Hard Drive = XBox Live on the Wii

That's all that's stopping the Wii from having a top-notch online service with full-game, TV show and movie downloads. Just enable the USB port for our own choice of HDD (take that, XBox's "all about choice") and it'll be even better than anything out there now.
