Halo 2 and Halo 3 comparison video

May 18th 2007 10:28PM (Joystiq)
I really don't get why there's so much bashing to the Halo 3 Beta. "It looks too video-gameish."? What the hell is it supposed to look like? I'd rather it look different from real life, and stylized in its own right so that I can make sense of things easier. One thing you can definitely tell by the bright armor and the shininess is that it's different. I can discern my enemy a lot easier in that respect. If Bungie had gone out of their way to make things have little to no difference in color or anything it'd be bland. They'd stick to the surroundings, and Halo would be unplayable.

And to those who are like "It doesn't play any different," why the fuck should it? It's Halo. You know what you signed up for. The gametypes and balance have been improved significantly, and I really think that the equipment is a good and worthy upgrade.

It's not about being ground breaking, or looking the best. It's about being the best overall experience, and Halo does that for me. The gameplay is unparred, and the graphics are really all I need. I purchased Gears of War. I played it for 2 months, and then it just got to the point where it was just bland. Every match was the same. Weapon variation sucked, and it was shoot first or die first. I left Gears and it's graphical paradise that you make it out to be, and I went back to the fun of Halo 2.

Now if you don't mind, I'll be returning to Valhalla/Snowbound/High Ground, right now.

Joystiq interviews Bungie's Frank O'Connor

Yeah, no kidding. If I see one more "Shiggy is an asshole" or "Frankie does jack shit and should be fired" post I'm probably just going to move to the Pirate-Bay island and import the games I like. Jesus Christ, people, It's called PEOPLE HAVE OPINIONS! Miyamoto likes to put emphasis on minute details and story. Bungie puts emphasis on quick and engaging fun. Both are right in their own respects. Metroid and Halo are two great games in their own rights. Metroid is slow and very long with lots of puzzles and story intricacies. Halo is well timed, with good story and quick timed strategy.

Both are good.

Get over it. xx;

Joystiq's video analysis of the Halo 3 Beta leak

@20: Dude, I don't know what you're talking about. I play games like Prey and can't stand that I'm seeing too much. It's harder to keep track of things, and frankly just gives me a little dizziness in the basic orientation of things. Halo has always been a game about focus, and turning your head. You get peripheral vision like a normal human has, and you get everything essential to your gameplay. If you absolutely have to see more, it's not that hard to twidle your right thumb left and right.

@ the Blue Orb: I agree, much too large to be active camo. I personally am hoping that it's a bit more of a deployable radial cloak. That'd help immensely for sniping and, as others have pondered, the ability to deploy things on vehicles would also render it well for use.

Pachter: Activision right to buy Red Octane instead of Harmonix

Apr 14th 2007 11:06AM (Joystiq)
"Uh, yeah, GH *did* rip off GF. All it did was add two frets, put things in that retarded hallway perspective, put in the most repetitive visuals ever, and not force wailing on you."

Okay, but lets look at the games Harmonix produced before GH. Frequency featured button timing for sounds, as did Amplitude, both of which featured the "retarded Hallway Perspective" as you put it, that really, are a better way of displaying things than how Benami does it in EVERY SINGLE GAME THEY MAKE! They added 2 Frets, indeed, because the gameplay was much more suited to behave a bit more like an actual guitar. They added a whammy bar and star power as well.

Totally a rip off.

And yes, this guy is a douche for saying that they'll be producing a rip-off of their own game.
