GamePro magazine switching to quarterly schedule

Aug 17th 2011 5:53PM (Joystiq)
Bad news. This only means the magazine will be gone sooner than later. It happened to Hardcore Gamer magazine.

They would be better off staying monthly and going retro like Retro Gamer in the UK rather than this move.

And as much as I loved GamePro in the 90s, I do not pay $9.99 for any magazine.

It seems like you haven't read a gaming magazine in a decade. They barely have any ads in them these days, let alone your ridiculous exaggeration.

Magazine readership overall is up 12% in the last decade. That means magazines and print media are not on the way out, but are doing just fine.

Game magazines haven't been about breaking news in almost a decade. It's more about insight and in depth articles than anything else these days.

@That One Guy

Game magazines haven't been about news for years. Get with the times. And when you buy a magazine, you buy it for more than "the news".

PSP Dual Packs double down on games for $15

@Brett from Atlanta

Read the agreement when you download a game, or on the back or a points or money card. It says that you aren't buying the game, you don't own it, only licensing it. it's similar to Windows. you aren't paying $139 to own Windows; you are only paying to have a license to use it.

There is an article in the current issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly that touches on this topic. And like with the Sonic Generations demo, any publisher can end your use of a game you downloaded pretty easily if your console is online enabled.

So for $15.00, you can either own the games outright on UMD, or you can spend that same $15 and download them yet only license them. I think it's obvious that physical media wins again.

It's not an add-on. It's the controller for the new console. Pay attention.
