Worst [recent] bug for me was the Rock Band 3 bug that corrupted your save game - I lost 2 save games that way before I saw a post explaining the bug and how to avoid it.

One of the nice things about Final Fantasy is that (with few exceptions) the story between each game is independent. There are common elements, sure (chocobos, moogles, airships, Cid), but you won't need to worry that everyone else knows all the main characters already. Also, while the gameplay is similar in some ways to FFXI, you're not going to be left behind in FFXIV if you didn't play FFXI.

I don't disagree that the graphics are amazing... but I don't see any chainmail in that photo. That's the standard miqo'te undershirt (cloth) and a pair of hempen trousers (also cloth).
