Report: House votes 'overwhelmingly' to block E15 fuel

Feb 22nd 2011 12:41PM (Autoblog)
@Dan

Corn is used to feed many livestock. Corn prices skyrocket, so do feed prices for said livestock. Wholesale prices of beef and chicken have skyrocketed in the last four years (double and triple). Increased corn prices also result in less production and thus higher prices of other products, such as soybean (vegetable oil), sugar and wheat (flour).

Food for fuel is a STUPID idea.

Tell me about it. I manage a restaurant and I've seen our food costs spiral out of control because of this madness of using food for fuel. Corn prices have skyrocketed during this and the last administration which leads to skyrocketing feed costs for poultry and other livestock and higher costs for other products such as soybean because everyone and their uncle is planting corn now thanks to the government subsidies.

@blitzkrieg

Framerate on this setup blows. I'm easily getting a playable framerate on my Eyefinity 5870 rig which pushes 7 megapixels and averages close to 30 fps on NFS Shift. This setup pushes only marginally more (7.5 megapixels) and it seems like its running 10 fps.

Dang, what's going on today? I love Engadget but c'mon, sometimes you guys (Josh, Chris, et. al), need to just suck it up and take it. I don't get where the mean spirited stuff applies here (certainly not to the level of banning).

Not entirely true. A number of games (sadly a very small number) run in native 1080p mode with no upsampling, including Wipeout HD, Ridge Racer 7 (the Xbox360 version of RR runs upsampled) and GT5 Prologue. The clarity of these titles on a 1080p panel is astounding.

@Brian:
Fox news only seems biased because the remaining 90% TV and print media tilt left.

There are actual studies on the fairness of various media outlets. Guess what, Fox came out ahead. Hilary Clinton herself says Fox is fairer than MSNBC.

A university study during the late 2007 election cycle found that Fox News aired 51% positive and 49% negative stories about Democrats. Republicans received a 49% positive 51 % negative shake. Guess what? The other networks averaged 40% positive and 60% negative for Republican candidates.

See there? You're just so used to seeing the right routinely blasted with negative coverage that ANY network coming along with a closer to 50/50 balance seems to tilt way right.

Obama trying to give biofuels a bump

May 7th 2009 12:32AM (Autoblog)
Man, some of you people think there's actually a difference between Bush and Obama. They're both in this terror war for the long haul (Obama streaming thousands more troops into Afghanistan - which may not necessarily be a bad thing), both approving of all sorts of social and pork filled programs - hell, they both even fall on the same side of the gay marriage debate. Bush never saw a spending bill he didn't like. He was well on his way to spending this country into oblivion. The new guy's just doing it at a far, far faster rate.

You realize China, just China, holds $700 billion in US securities, and our secretary of state's there telling 'em to buy even more?

Obama trying to give biofuels a bump

May 7th 2009 12:17AM (Autoblog)
Investment? The Chinese and other foreign banks are buying up massive Treasury bonds and the CBO says our deficits will run near $1 trillion (with a T) a year for ten years out. Just paying the interest will cost us 1.3 trillion (with a T) over the next decade. This is the CBO. And when the federal reserve starts dumping the extra trillion they've been printing up into the market, you'll see the value of our dollar plummet and HYPER inflation take hold - just like the good old 70s with it's double digit inflation rates and 18% mortgage rates. Like I said, Bush was Obama Lite. Both pissing money away.
