Showa Aircraft shows off contactless charging system, world backs on up a little

I've a question for you calgaryalta, how many people died as a result of 3 Mile Island? According to reports, the answer is zero. Yes, that's right, NO fatalities as a result. There have been reports of a increase in lung cancer rates, but those have some problems.

Sharp's Mebius PC-NJ70A packs LCD trackpad for the whiz-bang crowd

Seems to me to be more a Proof Of Concept than much else. I imagine once they get the bugs worked out it'll be much bigger.

Sony Pictures: Netflix issues 'not specific to Xbox'

I don't know about anyone else, but here's what that statement says to me.

"We now realize that we can hold our movies hostage. You have to go through us, so we can charge pretty much whatever we want. Ain't monopolies grand?"

Of course, they could just be trying to iron out some fees what with the writer's strike, trying to figure out who gets paid what. That's a BORING story though.

New solar cell efficiency record (barely) achieved at 40.8%

To be a huge nerd, you can't have 100% efficiency, as that would break a few laws of Thermodynamics.

AMD Cinema 2.0 tech demo: real-time photo-realistic human models

Ok, I'm impressed. I thought that was jsut a photo of a older girl. If they can really get that to move? Wow...just, Wow.

Omegathon 2008 lineup includes Peggle, Boom Blox, Rock Band, Jenga

Well, I would suggest buying the most recent verson of pictionary, and looking over all the cards, getting a list of the ones that would be reaaaly hard, and figure out a way to draw it really fast. Hehee, you don't want to be sitting there, waisting time on how to draw "Isolation"

PS3 BioShock's 'survivor mode' finally explained

Aug 6th 2008 8:32AM (Joystiq)
But the Vita-chambers still work. So you can still kill everyone with the wrench. I'd think for survivor, they'd turn off the chambers, or make them cost money, a'la System Shock 2

Portal gets new Flash-inspired maps

May 8th 2008 9:28AM (Joystiq)
Well damn, that is probably one of the best fan-made maps that I've ever seen. It gives a real sense of a "Before" and the ending was very cool as well :-D Amazing work!

Producer: Metal Gear Solid 4 must sell a million copies day one

Nov 29th 2007 1:50PM (Joystiq)
I'm not sure, as I'm not a marketing guru and don't know the exact percentages, but I'd believe that it has to sell 1 million as soon as humanly possible for them to make money. If it takes 6 months, that'd be 6 months of them in the red, and I believe that that may be a position that Konami can't afford to be in, but again, that's just from my rough impressions.

I think it would be possible and semi-reasonable that it would sell 1 million on launch. Halo 3 sold 3.4 million in the first 12 days, according to Wikipedia, and while the 360 has a larger install base, that also means that the demographics are more spaced out. With the PS3, I'd wager that a very high percentage of owners want MGS4, and with 5.5 million units sold (again, wikipedia) 1 out of 5 people who own a PS3 would need to buy it on day one. That seems possible, if not reasonable. But again, just my opnions and thoughts.

Valve's Steam service hacked, credit card information obtained

Apr 19th 2007 2:40AM (Joystiq)
I THINK (don't quote me on this) that the only cards are for people who have an account, where it always charges X amount, but i dunno...I never fail to be amused by people online who talk big, "You can contact me here, and you better bring something big unless you want me to release all your info" but when the police come knocking, they transform, magically, into "Please forgive me, i don't want to go to jail..." I don't know what the laws are like in Russia, but it'll be interesting to see what happens. And if nothing does, rest assured that the KGB had him killed.
