Microsoft avoids 360 cooling rumors, calls hardware updates 'commonplace'

Jun 15th 2007 11:28AM (Joystiq)
[q]4. Xbox 360 like the Ford (or GM) of consoles. There's always something flawed, or chronically broken, in its construction.

Ahh...I see you are a resident of the island of Moronica. How very nice for you.

Does Microsoft need Japan to succeed?

"48. ...
And the 360 is more than just a product for Microsoft to sell; it's their trojan horse for the living room. It's a way for them to move their software and services beyond the office, the computer room, and businesses. Why do you think there's such a heavy emphasis on streaming media with the 360, as opposed to putting content on it? They want to involve people more with their computers."

Keep in mind that MS does not own any media. They are the middle man. Sony, on the other hand does own media and they have a great advantage in doing what MS is already somewhat successful at. Even Apple is doing great selling someone else's media.

In fact, both these companies are at a disadvantage because they don't own the media, but they are actually ahead of the curve with trying to create a market.

I personally HATE digital downloads for music and movies as I prefer to have a DVD or CD and just transfer the contents where I need it.

"46. @ 41, not to the scale of the Xbox. Many Xbox owners complained about the frequent breakdown rate of their machines. It sure stopped me from getting one. Hell, it was even posted here on this site that someone had the ring of death three times! I don't remember seeing those numbers for any playstation, or any Nintendo product for that matter."

Multiple breakdowns is bad, yes. However, it's also a good thing to see MS taking care of its customers by extending the warranty AND refunding the repair costs for those of us who had the problem after the initial warranty expired. Nice touch.

Keep in mind, all this junk is built in China.

"38. Wow, most of you "experts" on Japan don't know shit about the country. I bet you never have even been there. Don't talk about what you "think" they like when you have absolutely no idea. Xbox fails there because it sucks. I assume most people don't want to return their systems 3-4 times before they get one that works. I guess they are just aware of american engineering, and how easily most things here break down."

Hmmm, American engineering slam. Nice. How about PS/2 engineering, was that American? Remember all the problems it had? How about the PSP with the stupid square button problem? American engineering there also? How about the DS crack? American once again?

You are pathetic. You clearly have some anti American issue, but your argument is pretty weak.

Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft hop on the NPD merry-go-round

Lloyd Dobler: I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that.

What I really want to do with my life - what I want to do for a living - is I want to be with your daughter. I'm good at it.

Valve's Steam service hacked, credit card information obtained

Apr 19th 2007 8:11AM (Joystiq)
First of all, never register your "real" ccard on any website. Use the virtual credit card services from Citi Bank or Bank of America (shop safe).

Either one of these two will allow you to generate a new cc number on the fly and for an amount you specify. Then, register that with whatever site on the net you need to. If that site gets hacked, the card you registered cannot be used by any other vendor, especially if fix the amount to exactly what you bought with it.

Second, if you are worried about someone getting your cc info, all you need to do is call the customer service for that card and say you think it was stolen. They will then generate a new account number for you and send it. I recommend doing this every 6 months or so.
