Umm, Blu-ray reads at the same speed throughout the entire disc, whereas DVD reads faster at the outer edge of the disc. For DVD, the disk spins at the same speed no matter where the laser is, so if the laser is at the outside of the disc then it reads faster than if it is at the inside of the disc.
I'm not sure how blu-ray does it but I know the first CD drives would adjust the speed of the motor according to where the laser was, to get the same speed throughout the disc.
Blu-ray is faster than dvd at the speeds at the inside of the dvd disc, but the speeds on the outside of the dvd disc absolutely pwn blu ray. However, future blu-ray drives may rectify this.
Well, the 360 launched in 2005. If they launch the next console in 2010 and maintain support for the 360 till 2012 or 2013, and this title is to be a launch title, then 3 years of development is not unreasonable.
Here in Australia, the Three network provides an IMAP server which you can connect to from any phone that supports it. This IMAP server has an email for every voicemail message, each with a WAV file containing the message attached. Deleting messages from here also deletes them from the regular voicemail, etc.
I've always found the ad quite ironic. I use my mac for work stuff and my PC for fun. Despite only being 800mhz, my mac still does everything I need for the work that i do, and I intend to keep it around until it breaks. Whereas to keep up with games, my PC needs to be upgraded every 2 years minimum.
Which I guess is why the "Just let me lie here and depreciate" line from the PC struck a cord with me.
I don't know who wal*mart thinks they are kidding. People aren't going to stop buying DVDs just because wal*mart doesn't stock them. DVDs aren't a comodity like choolate. A Lost DVD might cost the same as a Stargate DVD, but you can bet the Stargate one is worth a lot more to me than the Lost one. So if Wal*mart stops stocking Stargate because they don't like the studio...I'll simply buy the same DVD elsewhere.
Again, Wal*mart has basically no leverage here. If they send back DVDs, or refuse to stock certain studios, the only loosers will be them.
(and yes, I realise that in reality its the Lost DVD that wal*mart won't stock, but that doesn't work for me because I think Lost is trash)
Of course, none of this is relavant to me, because we don't have wal*marts where i live (Australia)
@10: Or, like me, he just used whatever he had lying around. Which just so happened to be a g4 450. The machine is just fine for what he's using it for and it keeps it from the trash.
The power adapter for my thinkpad makes a rather loud hissing noise when the adapter is plugged into the wall but not into the laptop. Mayve this noise has something to do with power NOT being consumed by the hard drive?
Why some PS3 games need installations
