iPad 2 gets glasses-free 3D display using front-facing camera for head tracking

Apr 11th 2011 1:25PM (TUAW.com)
@puhsitch - Yes they did. You had to calibrate the DS with a blank wall behind you so it could silhouette your image to track the 3D position. It was an early attempt and at time frustrating but it still did a damn good job giving you the 3D perspective.

T-Mobile says no iPhone

Mar 21st 2011 12:14PM (TUAW.com)
That's what T-Mobile says. But what does AT&T say?

Look I'm sure AT&T aren't going to come on board and start modifying the 3G network that T-Mobile has to make it compatible with the iPhone, but these statements that T-Mobile are making are a bit premature since the purchase only just happened, and the take over process has just begun.

Admittedly I'd like to see my iPhone 4 working properly with the T-Mobile network, but I would prefer to see a 4G/LTE version of the iPhone before I see anyone attempting to make T-Mobile's 3G network work properly.

And just for those wondering: T-Mobile does support the iPhone at EDGE speeds for people who come into the country on particular work visas - they won't turn you away, in fact they will encourage you. But forget all about getting proper 3G speeds, because they use a modified 3G network that the iPhone does not support.

Painful, but useable.

MacBook Pro owners reporting Home Sharing issues

Mar 17th 2011 2:48PM (TUAW.com)
This isn't a Sandy Bridge MacBook Pro issue. I've been having this problem since the update with my 2009 MacBook Pro

It is intermittent, breaks up the sound and at times just drops off the radar until I reboot my MacBook Pro.

This is more likely the iTunes update than the CPU update.

iPod touch owners report graphics issues under iOS 4.3

Mar 16th 2011 12:11PM (TUAW.com)
My iPhone 4 has issues with the messaging app.
1. Go to messages and open a message
2. Bring up the keypad
3. Click back to the message list and I find the keypad does not minimize.

It won't minimize until I click back into a message otherwise I can be stuck with either a text entry bar without keypad, or a keypad covering over the list of messages reducing my viewport.

Anyone else also seeing this problem?

iOS 4.3 is now available

Mar 9th 2011 2:50PM (TUAW.com)
Farris, I came over here from Australia. The iPhone 4 is a legit unlocked Australian device - we don't have those rules that say you have to be part of a network just to have a mobile phone.

So to answer your question, no it's not jail broken.

iOS 4.3 is now available

Hmmm... not really impressed with this update. There seems to have been a lot of those supposed features that are not in here (transparent keyboard, new look app store updates) and I'm guessing Home sharing updates do not work over MobileMe (yet) i.e., cannot remotely see your iTunes library outside your LAN.

Also the personal hotspot feature will only work with approved carriers (my T-Mobile iPhone 4 definitely won't let me)

Apple's new Digital AV Adapter: what it will and won't do

Mar 3rd 2011 3:04PM (TUAW.com)
Jeff, that was the original purpose of Front Row to give you that somewhat early version of ATV (it was available even before ATV was out).

Sadly (or not) Apple is now retiring FrontRow so what will be next?

There are still a few sketchy details about Mac OS X going forward, why have FaceTime and iChat for instance?

Apple's new Digital AV Adapter: what it will and won't do

Mar 3rd 2011 12:26PM (TUAW.com)
I don't get why they don't have an adapter such that the iPhone 4 operates just like the AppleTV 2.

Plug it in, the TV shows the Apple TV interface. Content could still be streamed I guess or played straight off the device.

I mean the ATV2 is just a cut down iPhone 4.

TUAW's Holiday Gift Guide: Should I buy an Apple TV?

Dec 9th 2010 6:09PM (TUAW.com)
I have the original AppleTV and I can't fault it in any way except the CPU speed - a faster CPU would improve it just that bit more.

However, there are 2 things I'm concerned about losing:
1. Purchasing of video content on the AppleTV (I believe the new model is rentals only)
2. Ability to sync back those purchases to my Mac

Granted I can always purchase on my Mac then stream but I don't want to have to carry around my laptop to purchase the movie then ensure it's running iTunes to watch that movie.

Also can I purchase a movie and stream it from my mac while it's downloading?

The original AppleTV has streaming to a degree already built in; if something isn't synced yet it still displays the item in the menu and will stream rather than sync.

But yes it's lacking the push of video via Airplay.

It's a fine line to work out if upgrading is worthwhile. Anyone able to sway me?

Easily fix "vanishing" iPhone music in iOS 4.2.1

Has Apple incorporated iPod Nano controls into the iPod app of the iPhone?

Out of habit, I was on the album display of the Now Playing song on my iPhone and as I would with my nano, swiped back to the playlist and it went back!!!!

I don't know, has this feature always been there?
