Super Smash Bros. Brawl site counting down to relaunch

May 15th 2007 12:52PM (Joystiq)
My friends and I still play Smash and Melee to this day, they're great games and I can't wait for online. I hope it allows multiple people on one console when online. That'd be tits.

PlayStation Home footage is beta-than Second Life

@soccerdrew17,"i would say that this is the single most ambitious project for the video game industry bar none."

Uhm, while I agree that Home is kinda neat (not something I'd be interested in nowadays) it's nowhere near as ambitious as let's see... Spore, the Wii, the DS, Live Anywhere, XNA or even... Crysis.

Virtual Worlds have been done and done again, in fact I played a virtual world 10 years ago similar to this (possibly even better), was called ThePalace. I used to hop on a server called the Balamb Garden and play on a little game called the Colosseum where a bunch of Square characters were put into a big turn based vs game with 1v1 to 5v5 (each character was controlled by a single person). There was also Tripple Triad there (from FF), and plenty other user made games. It was really made just as a chat room with avatars that could be made from any picture, but it ended up so much more than that. Not that anything in there was worth anything besides the Colosseum.

If users can make their own games in a code that isn't generally used on the net (something besides flash and java) I can see this going somewhere where Microsoft is trying to go with XNA. But other than that, a glorified chat room (minus keyboard) with built in minigames and advertisements is all this is right now.

Sweet, that means we're gonna get yet ANOTHER rehash of the crappiest elements of MMOs. More instances, levels, gear and fed-ex/collection quests please.

Mega-huge video game & console collection for sale on eBay

Apr 19th 2007 6:45AM (Joystiq)
I would have bid if there was a Sega Saturn and every Treasure game in there. But it doesn't, so this collection is made of fail.

Battle of the FPS Titans: Samus vs. Master Chief

Apr 18th 2007 4:05PM (Joystiq)
The ending was really lame, I'm glad to see that he didn't spend much time on it though seeing as the animation goes to crap at the end, especially noticeable in the dancing. Really should have ended with master chief leaving a glove or something and ending it with an explosion. Everything before the end was good.

Dyack breaks Too Human silence, talks four player co-op

Apr 17th 2007 10:12PM (Joystiq)
Made of lose. Co-op should be a single console endeavor where a bunch of buds get together and dick around. Not a LAN party get together where people have to drag TVs around to get a co-op game going or have to be across state on xbox live to play with each other. The more games the 360 comes out with the more and more it's looking like someone's trying to abolish people playing a multiplayer game on the same console.

Lord of the Rings Online free until April 24

And the WoW clones begin.

I was highly disappointed that this game didn't take any unique mechanic from Turbine's previous games instead replacing any dignity they might have had with blatant copying. You really do have something here Turbine, you did a damn good job copying WoW and taking out every mechanic that made it fun. You did however manage to keep all the crap that's really annoying about WoW.

Monster Play and the Music system are both good ideas. Everything else you yanked out of Blizzard's sewage pipes. I can't imagine how crappy that shit is since WoW took a lot of their shit from EQ. There were tons of EQ clones, let's see if EQ can get a round of clones this decade too in the guise of WoW.
