First multi-region Blu-ray players appearing

Dec 31st 2007 5:45AM (Engadget)
Its a harhware hack which requires hot air solder reworking. There is a conversion kit for 90euro's if you have the skills and equipment to do it yourself.

Incandescent light bulbs be to shelved by 2012 in US

Dec 24th 2007 8:01AM (Engadget)
The $2000 clean story is an urban myth. There is absolutely no reason, legal or health wise to pay someone to clean up after a CF bulb. The mercury content is NOT 5g its actually 0.005g, breaking the bulb would release an incredibly small part of that which could be easily cleaned up anyway.

These lights have been used in offices for decades.

Toshiba's building a "Micro Nuclear" reactor for your garage?

Dec 19th 2007 2:17PM (Engadget)
40 years at 200Kw @ $0.05 = $3.5million dollars.

that a hell of a lot of investment. Solar cells from http://www.nanosolar.com/ look a hell of lot cheaper and safer. $1/watt would cost you $200K for the 200kw and last 7-10 years.

Michael Bay's format war conspiracy theory: it's a Microsoft fix

Dec 5th 2007 5:38AM (Engadget)
Wild theory, eh?

I just happens that MS have said themselves that they don't care which format wins. The x360 will not get an inbuilt HD-DVD drive because they don't want the customers to be left with a losing format and the future is digital downloads. MS currently provide a HD movie download service.

This is significantly better than the xbox add on. It supports sound output, the add-on is useless for AV use due to the lack of decent audio.

Emtac's new mini-S3 Bluetooth GPS receiver is smallest yet

Dec 8th 2006 12:25PM (Engadget)
The Holux GPSLim 240 weights 35g and is less than half the volume.

There are half a dozen similar sized GPS units to the Emtac. Its a standard form factor

LicketyShip's four hour gadget delivery service goes live

Sep 29th 2006 10:46AM (Engadget)
Wow, getting goods delivered in four hours in a large city, who would of thought of that?
Try phoning any London company and they will send it via bike or van within a couple of hours, even hundreds of miles away - if you want to pay.
Hell, you can even get Pizza delivered. Maybe I should setup a Pizza delivery comapny, thats an original idea, eh?

Sony under fire for "racist" advertising

Jul 6th 2006 9:06AM (Engadget)
Its seems you have to be a White Racist American to view this as Racist. Is there some problem with the idea of Black and White mixing together? Is there an automatic judgement of better or worse based on skin colour?

Live in Shoreditch? Prepare for 2Gbps to your home.

Homechoice (who provide the video service) have NO advertising in their Video on Demand service, neither do they have advertising channels (excect for VOD for particular products).
Homechoice's IPTV is available over much of London and has 8Mbit adsl. ADSL2+ later this year with HDTV

Former Gizmondo exec. involved in Ferrari Enzo crash

Feb 23rd 2006 5:57AM (Joystiq)
This guy is a convicted criminal and member of the Swedish Mafia. He must of lied to US immigration to get entry because having a criminal record like his should have barred him from entry.
