An apology, and a note on hype

Aug 8th 2006 4:30PM (Joystiq)The other day I asked this girl at gamestop about the wii and she said, "Excuse me?" I said Nintendo revolution and she said; they have no date. You have to understand that some people working at these stores are new or don't know anything about video games.
Japan: Why all the big headed baseball games?
Jul 21st 2006 6:54PM (Joystiq)Japan: Why all the big headed baseball games?
Jul 21st 2006 5:06PM (Joystiq)This is simply to compensate. Two words, "small Penis".
It is common practice among humans to try to emphasize certain body parts or use tools in order to remove the attention front others. i.e female use high heels shoes to look taller, wear makeup to hide their ugliness or emphasize their face so people do not look at their unavailable ass. Base on scientific studies Japanese developers have small penis and microscopic balls; which explains why they are not making RPG games for the 360; instead the resort to emphasize the “big head” in their work/games as a form of therapy to restrain their depression and frustration over their physiological limitations.
SOE cops Unreal Engine 3 license
Jul 21st 2006 1:50PM (Joystiq)All these engines are designed to work for most of the consoles if the hardware supports it. If you know any programming you would know that these are just libraries that you can add to your project and use a will. They allow projects/games to be developed faster and easier since they encapsulate Modularity, Rendering, animation (facial expressions), physics, and audio (lip-sync) into easy to use objects and functions.
Can you make a game for the Xbox 360 or the PS3 without? Yes, they both come with a 1st party libraries and game engine(s); it will take a lot more work/time. Another benefit for using these 3rd engines is that they work like wrappers around the console specific libraries and functions so porting games to other consoles that support the same engine take a lot less effort.
So, nothing stops your from using multiple game engines (i.e. Source & UE3) in the same game (though licensing two engines may not be cost effective or worth doing).
Source supports both 32-bit and 64-bit environments and the Microsoft Windows, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms. The same cannot be said about Nintendo’s platform at least for now due to hardware constrains.
When is an engine better than another? When it supports more features.
Also the Unreal Engine might be more apealing to developers making exclusive games for the 360 than the Source Engine. Why?
Fanboysm aside there are some features and technology supported by UE3 that are non-existant on the PS3; for instance the Unreal Engine 3 incorporates support for Direct3D 9 and next generation APIs including XNA, Direct3D 10 and same level of OpenGL 2.x.
So, “I can imagine that the Source engine with HDR would be able to make a REAL Halo killer for the PS3” is bull. Why? 1) Engines are just tools to speed the development process. 2) Halo (Xbox) developers have access to “Source” and “UE3” plus a lot more Apis than PS3 developers. So, I’m sorry to be the one telling you this but; it takes a lot more than a game engine to make a good game. And if the Halo Killer comes to the PS3 it will not be because of a game engine. Most 3rd party engines are multi-platform.

Jul 19th 2006 9:16PM (Joystiq)Simply because link is too transvestite, female looking and no real man would dress like that even if they get pay for it. Would you dress like that in front of thousands of people? (Don’t answer if you are a Nintendo’s fan) I know all Nintendo’s fan would love to dress like Link, Mario or the princess and most of you do; but I am talking about normal people.
