THQ CEO: "Our Steam business is going through the roof"

Dec 4th 2010 12:18AM (Big Download)
Hmm, that's surprising. I don't really ever see any of THQ's games make it onto the Top 10 list other than the occasional Metro 2033.

Game Dev Story 2 coming to iPhone, eventually

Nov 30th 2010 7:30PM (Joystiq)
This seriously just made my day. I never thought I'd be reading that headline, ever. I was tipped off to this from TUAW and immediately purchased it. No doubt the best game I have downloaded not just on an iOS device, but ANY device.

Oh and for those of you who will inevitably ask how to hire a hardware engineer to make your own console, you need to upgrade an employee through every job up to level 5. Steps:

1. Upgrade employee to level 5.
2. Use career change manual and move to the next position.
3. Upgrade the employee to level 5 in his/her new position.
4. Repeat until you reach level 5 in all positions. After this "Hardware Engineer" will appear as a new job class. Then you can build your own game console!

BONUS- Upgrade your hardware engineer to level 5 and the "Hacker" position will open up. This means you will have 300+ for every skill and this person will be good at every job.

Marvelous caps 3DS game development at $1.8M per title

@KaBob799

No, it doesn't. But the 3DS isn't just a regular DS with a new 3D screen, it is an entire new system. (think of it as the DS 2...because that IS what it is) It is more graphically capable than the Wii. Thus, the more advanced the game, the more it will cost to make.

Valve founder Gabe Newell is a name you need to know, according to Forbes

Uh nope, it's just him, Gabe Newell!

Off-season Madden suiting up for 3DS launch

Nov 10th 2010 2:53PM (Joystiq)
Ok, these screenshots are misleading. They doubled the resolution of them! Thats why the UI looks so blurry in the 1st direct feed screen. The 3DS is 400x240 for the top screen and they are rendering these in 800x480. A full 2x higher than they actually are! I wish the 3DS had that high of a resolution!

iPad 2 ads being shot in New York City?

Nov 8th 2010 7:52PM (TUAW.com)
I don't even know where to BEGIN tackling that comment... Ok the easiest way to sum it up is this. Apple isn't competing with Nintendo and they aren't competing with the 3DS. Now on the flip side, Nintendo IS competing with Apple and the iPhone/iPad line. People are buying and will continue to buy the iDevices with the intention in mind of them being little entertainment devices for music, movies, internet, and now games. The only people buying the 3DS are people interested solely in games. The 3DS can deliver those hardcore 3D time consuming games where the iDevices are good for the smaller time wasters. Apple doesn't have to worry about Nintendo stealing the market as the 3DS is aimed in a completely different direction when compared to the iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Ok, just in case my point became garbled by that wall of text. Nintendo isn't a competitor to Apple. Apple IS a competitor to Nintendo.

Sound off: New Xbox 360 Dashboard

Nov 1st 2010 10:06PM (Joystiq)
I don't know, I'm not liking it too much myself. I think it's due to the way the different boxes are laid out now. They used to fade into the background, but now they are all the same size and color so they don't seem to stand out as much anymore. I just don't like this new rough looking style as a whole actually. It feels like I'm going from Windows XP (NXE) to Windows 2000 (NXE 2.0) in regards to all of the sharp corners and bland colors. I'm hoping I will grow into it more.

Oh and that Zune Marketplace still sucks! Now they actually prompt you when you are set to leave the Video/Music Store! It just feels so disconnected from the rest of the UI. I can see if they were optional tabs but being major sections of the OS right on the main page I feel they should integrate a bit smoother into the rest of it. When they added the Zune store to the original NXE I thought they might have gotten rid of that black fade in a later update, but the fact that they didn't manage to do that in a total revamp AND they actually added a prompt on leaving pretty much puts the nail in the coffin on that idea. :(

The amazing and humble success story behind iPhone game Trainyard

Oct 18th 2010 10:43PM (Joystiq)
You guys should check out "Game Dev Story" that just released too. It's super addictive. It's a game company tycoon game. Pretty much lemonade tycoon but with games. I wish there were more games like that.
