Sony shows off the real PS3 controller

May 9th 2006 12:05AM (Engadget)
Let me get somm right out of the way:
http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/060509ae.pdf
The "real" Playstation 3 is $599. The $499 version has no memory stick, wireless, or HDMI which are all important functions. Also the PS3 will NOT have dual shock since they lost the law suit. Everyone fighting here obviously isn't a fanboy since to my understanding most of the people here didn't know about this info until some REAL fanboys posted the links before me. Also, all the people screaming "it's ripping off Wii" or "haha the PS3 has Wii capabilities". This new feature has nothing on Wii and I can't even imagine this being used in games (the preview was lame).

Real people speak out about Wii [Update 1]

Apr 28th 2006 8:28PM (Joystiq)
how do would you pronounce Wii?
Wee? Why? I don't know

If this was a name of a product what product would it be?
A watch.

What if this is the name of Nintendo's next console?
Lame because it looks like WWII

Xbox 360 to get CPU upgrade in 2007

Apr 21st 2006 11:01AM (Joystiq)
Let me first say that I'm a pc gamer. I have no consoles other than a Dreamcast. Pc gaming and console gaming, in my opinion, are two different things. The point of a console is a cheap solution for the consumer to play games. You just go into the store pick it up and you're good to go for years. What Microsoft is doing with all these extra "upgrades" is creating a mouseless computer that can only play games. The whole point of a console is so you DON'T need to learn about the machine, what's better what's worse, just consetrate on the games. Now they're just giving the consumer a big headache.

Joystiq readers critique Hitman advertisement

Apr 14th 2006 12:17PM (Joystiq)
I can not understand where the controversy is coming from. I've looked at the ad over and over again (re reading my PCGAMER issue) and still can't understand what the issue at hand is. The first time I saw the ad I had a small smile on my face and thought to myself "creative" because it WAS a creative ad. There is no blood and an attractive woman who's legs are revealed. Now if anyone finds the legs offensive should get out more or just turn on the TV. All you're gonna see is legs and mostly from undergage girls. There's nothing offensive in this ad and I do believe it was beautifully executed.

Ad critic: Lara's booty too big to believe? [update 1]

Apr 14th 2006 12:04PM (Joystiq)
Maby I'm missing something, but what made tomb raider so succesful in the first place was that the main character, Lara Croft, was hot. THAT was the main selling point of the original game. Also lets not forget that sex sells.

Red Steel with no blood?

Apr 12th 2006 8:53PM (Joystiq)
How is it that you can kill all the people you want and slice them up but just because you don't have blood it makes it OK for a 13 year old to play it? Comparisons to the game Black are irrelivant. Just because two games have a first person view doesn't mean they're the same games. Black focuses on huge explosions where blood truly wouldn't do anything to the game. This game, on the other hand, focuses on shooting people in different parts and then slicing them up with a katana. This game should be more compared to Mortal Kombat (for this argument). Notice how Street Fighter didn't have blood and was successful, that's because it wasn't a game that required it. Mortal Kombat REQUIRED blood. The whole fun of the game was the blood.
I believe that this game needs to have a blood on/off switch to keep both parties happy, but I do not think, even with blood off, that this should be a T rated game.

Massive Auto Assault in-game ads announced

Mar 15th 2006 12:45AM (Joystiq)
First off, form what I read in mags and the screen shots i've seen, I don't understand why I should pay a monthly fee for this. Isn't this pretty much Twisted Metal with just a bit more players per server? First off even if it's some rediculous number of players, what's the point? You're either not gonna be seeing them and if you are your system's gonna lag like crazy and everyone's gonna be dying every second. If there are 64 players or less durring a single match, then what the hell am I paying for? First person shooters have been at 64 players at a time with no lag and I don't have to pay monthly for it.
As for the advertising part, if there's advertising, (I don't care how they distroy/age the advertising, there's no way they can make it fit in correctly)I'm not paying a single penny for the game. What's happening to games is the same thing that happened to cable. People started paying to watch TV to get away from the commercials, now look where it's gotten. If gamers don't stop this now, online gaming will turn into crap cable.

Metroid Prime Hunters commercial all dark and edgy

Mar 13th 2006 5:12PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
it's funny though to see the Nintendo commercials going from "happy" and "jumping" to "death" and "darkness"

PlayStation 3 could feature downloadable PSone, PS2 games

Mar 13th 2006 5:10PM (Joystiq)
What's the point of this service if all you're gonna download is the same damn game that you're playing right now but with worse graphics. I guess you could download the original crash bandicoots (if found those quire fun), IQ cube would fall into the category, tumba and that's pretty much it, everything else either has a sequel or there's a game that's pretty much the same damn thing except with a different title on it.

Japanese gamers wait in line for DS Lite

Mar 2nd 2006 9:39AM (Engadget)
I don't understand this. You're not getting anything new here. Unless you have money to spend left and right, then I understand that you want to have the latest. But for pretty much everyone here, what the hell is the point of buying a product that you already have? If it's for the coolness factor, I'm sorry but there's not way in hell you're gonna look playing the DS, doesn't matter what they do with it. IT'S THE SAME DAMN PRODUCT THAT YOU ALREADY SHELLED OUT $130 FOR. This is the reason why most of Americans are in debt.
