no one find it odd that a giant link is surrounded by psp's and ps2's:)

Analyst: In-stock PS3s are "troubling"

Jan 12th 2007 5:31AM (Joystiq)
i think people are taking everything too seriously. I think people need to calm down on the joystiq bashing as well, they are just reporting the news as they see it, if you dont like it and it makes you angry, dont think about turning off your monitor, just change the page!!!

as far as ps3 stock goes, its very expensive, i mean there arent many games and its $600. The argument that the xbox 360 is just as expensive isnt valid. When the ps3 finally releases in the uk it will start £425 which at current exchange is nearly $850. Now i looked on ebay recently in america and it would be cheaper to just import one. Thats beside the poitn though, people dont seem to realise that the 360 is being bundled in deals that dont go much over the rrp. You can buy a 360 premium, an extra controller, gears of war, pgr3 and the arcade pack for £299 off of play.com.

Coupled with a high price tag is the lack of games, resistance looks alright, but it isnt anything new or freshj, and one of the biggest complainst levelled at the original xbox was the fps genre that dominated it. Granted motorstorm and assassins creed look good, but there have been bad rumours about games like lair playing like a dog in demos. Plus sony's constant boasting about true HD has really put peoples back up. Motorstorm is confirmed at 30fps 720p. So its not true HD then is it, sony?

There wont be a price drop this year, not from sony, but you will see retailers reducing bundle prices, and with every big game the sales should get a nice boost. Even still, Sony must be expecting the sales to be slow, they built a system they were confident would last a long time, and my guess is they arent expecting to hit massive figures until a good bit down the line.

i wont even mention the wii. Tbh i really wanted one before christmas, but the thing was old out everywhere and i dint manage to get one, now i am glad. The system doesnt have that many games and so i will hold out for metroid and mario before getting one. When they show up.

Today's hottest game video: Dragon Quest IX

i dont see why its such a shock, when you look at sales figures for the ds, if there was one of the new line of consoles that matched up to its sales then square would develop its exclusives for that, but the ds is blowing them all out of the water with regular japanese sales that must make sony cry into their cornflakes.

i know if i was a massive developer with a franchise that is one of the most popular in japan that i would create it for the one platform that has the install base to utilise it (of course i would have expected it to be on ps2 but meh).

Xfire is "complementary" to Sony's PNP service

Oct 13th 2006 5:18AM (Joystiq)
live is probably the best thing about the 360, its great fun checking up on other people and making new buddies during online play. the demo downloads are free and meant you didnt have to go to e3 to play the demos. its touches like that that really impressed me with live over the year, and its not too expensive either, and there is one core service without a multitude of 3rd party servers runing together. The only exception being phantasy star online and ff 11 where you have have an added charge.

i also heard that for some ps3 games it will use gamespy, so there are going to be multiple third party servers running their live network just like the old ps2 live system.

oh and whoever mentioned buying content, sony have already stated they are selling extras on the live system, such as buying tracks and cars in gt:hd and songs in singstar. The stuff for graw, or oblivion on xbox live, is extra to the game, made after to enhance and prolong it, by all rumours gt:hd is going to sell with very few cars and tracks and require purchase.

TGS: Blogging Ken Kutaragi's PS3 keynote [update 1]

Sep 22nd 2006 4:42AM (Joystiq)
@matjet - i think you will find that most of what is in the article is a direct feed of the keynote speech, so sony wrote that. and in all honesty if i had to sit through a speech of that length and complexity when it is meant to be pitching a console ( a word not used) then i too would be a little bored and probably grouchy. Seriously, this was a pr disaster and it doesnt matter if joystiq are ps3 haters, sony have doen very little to warm people too them, they are relying on brand loyalty to sell the console, while nintendo and microsoft are having to work hard for their sales.

the nintendo demo videos that came out this last week are very impressive and paint a great picture for the console, while sony released a 3 minute ps3 trailer about some french dude going boxing and finished with a ten second clip of what looked like a mediocre fps running on a medium range pc.

People want to be shown the console working, they dont want empty talk about cd-roms and bluray, or cad systems, or how the internet is great. I hope the ps3 does well, because it drives the market and if it fails then the gamer ultimately loses, but sony need to start working on people with some positive pr by focusing on killer apps they have. They should stop even mentioning other consoles, or pc markets and just sit down and go, "right its expensive, but look at this, this rules and thats why your paying so much for it!"

European launch of PlayStation 3 delayed until March 2007

Sep 6th 2006 5:35AM (Joystiq)
well thats not much of a surprise, they still havent started production and the yield on cell is pretty poor. Added to that there was mention at leipzig that the ps3 has a built in power supply, so localisation is gonna slow production alot as well. I doubt its gonna be region free, but you never know.

its gonna be an interesting time for sony stockholders:)

Is Texas Hold 'em on XBLA broken?

Aug 25th 2006 4:41AM (Joystiq)
i find all this griping quite funny really, the game was free when you all downloaded it and it might have some flaws, but to be honest i have had a blast on it and even witht he slow multiplayer if you find a good room its still great craic.

if they patch it in future then cool, but if they dont, i still have had hours of fun playing it and will still get hours of fun out of it.

E3: PS3 launch details

May 9th 2006 5:28AM (Joystiq)
it never ceases to amaze how much people screw over europe. If you look at ps2 sales figure we werent too far behind the us and we were way ahead of japan. Yet where is the return loyalty, 500 euros is about £340, thats what $600-$630 for the skimmed down non hdmi, non wireless, non whatever pack. :(

as far as the graphics go, they dont look much better than xbox360, and from listening to developers they wont. I think sony are banking on a cheap bluray selling point, but until hdtv really takes off whats the point. In the core package you dont get hdmi either, didnt they say bluray and hddvd wouldnt work without it? didnt microsoft have to say that their add-on used some form of emulation to get around this?? weird.

the controller, em ok. interesting idea, if you want to get sued. And by your supposed major competetor too. Whats with the market place either, when i read that bit about singstar i nearly wet my self. So you buy a game and then you buy the songs? has anyone seen SOE and how they treat their fans. It aint like a horse armour pack, they really go over the top on selling things. Horse armour, who bought that shit anyway?? this aint asia, there they give you free games, then charge you. they dont expect you to pay £50 quid and then cough up for stuff that should have been included.

myself i was almost considering buying a ps3, i never owned a ps2 but loved many of the games, and i play more games than i care mention. I bought a 360 a long time after launch and it cost me 310 with two games which was pretty sweet as they were oblivion and graw and i play both for upwards of fifty hours:) Which means i got all that entertainment for only a few quid an hour.

Of course ps3 will be the same, and for those people talking baout ebay, its a well documented fact, but seriously if you want to ship consoles you dont take that into account, because it aint millions who spend that money its only a small select few. Most common folk like me just wait.

If i had the money i would buy it and a big tv, but i just dont. Microsoft will probably drop their price and increase the harddrive on the premium to 100gig. plus mentioning the wifi i bought a five quid usb wifif adapter for my home pc. stuck it in the xbox360 and it worked. i used the wired but thats cause my router sits between the pc and the xbox so i dont need wifi for it. just saying:)
