FiOS TV expansions: July 25, 2009

Jul 26th 2009 1:04PM (Engadget HD)
You're correct, those in Fontana are very happy with the announcement. Fontana has had FiOS Internet service for nearly two years now, but the TV service was a no show. The TV service was to come from a wire center in Rancho Cucamonga, but the RC City Council tossed so many roadblocks up that Verizon walked away from deploying in the city. That action stopped the buildout at the wire center, and here we sat for two years waiting for something to happen with TV.

The statement about FiOS in Rancho Cucamonga is also a bit misleading. There is no FiOS buildout in Rancho Cucamonga with the exception of a few new housing developments where Verizon deployed FiOS from the start. For the other 95% of Rancho Cucamonga residents, FiOS is no in the cards until well into 2010.

I think Verizon simply decided to stop making the existing customers wait for FiOS TV and upgraded the wire center even though they are still not deploying in Rancho Cucamonga.

I've been waiting to switch from Time Warner to FiOS TV, and as of five days ago, I'm now free of Time Warner. Since the announcement, I've seen a flurry of FiOS installers in my neighborhood so it appears others are following along.

It's too bad that the old PS1 Namco NegCon twisting controller was never re-engineered for the Ps3. It was by far the best controller for WipeOut or just about any driving game.

PS3 doesn't do 1080i?

Nov 18th 2006 1:06AM (Engadget HD)
I thought that is was a requirement that the set support 720p and 1080i. If you have a set that doesn't support 720p, then you purchased a crap TV. The six year old Rear Projection set I just got rip of supported both.

Joystiq video: Xbox 360 Wireless Headset review

Nov 9th 2006 11:25AM (Joystiq)
I and others I've talked with are having problems with dropped connections. From time to time, the sound will shift back to the TV, the headset will then beep, and it will reconnect.

Besides the connection drops, the headset is otherwise an improvement on the corded unit. Very comfortable. Better sound quality.

Warner Home Video provides first HD DVD vs Blu-ray comparison

Aug 5th 2006 12:07PM (Engadget)
Last but not least... WB was initially a HD DVD-only proponent but later buckled and announced they would be producing Blue-Ray software too. Since they really wanted HD DVD to be the one that succeeds, there is no telling what intentional downgrading they may have done while mastering the Blue-Ray content.
