May 3rd 2011 6:26PM (TUAW.com)You took something as simple as a red bubble with a number next to an app and turned it into a full-blown application with entire lists of things that need my attention and added another double-tap action (don't we have enough? the double-tap already serves 5 or 6 functionalities!). No thanks.
Don't take me the wrong way, that video looks like it took quite a bit of time and effort to produce, but I would really like to simplify notifications, not complicate them.
The one great idea that I agree with is the lockscreen part. Your idea there is brilliant and it's exactly what I'm personally hoping for. I would lose the "slide to view" part though and just keep a small 3-4 item list (scrollable of course) of the most recent notifications in the lockscreen.
Now, some of you will argue that you would be unable to view these notifications when you're actually using the phone. I would disagree. When you're using the phone you would still get the standard popup when a notification arrives and the red bubbles will still be next to the app icons. Is it really all that troublesome to lock/re-lock the phone to view all the notifications?
The iOS home screen is very simplistic but its filled with a lot of "hidden" functionality (with double-taps, horizontal sliding, spotlight, folders, etc).
Do you really want to make it even more complicated?

Oct 27th 2010 3:52AM (TUAW.com)In my case, Apple actually broke my battery!
I sent in my white macbook to replace the cracked case (a known problem for which they will replace the case at any time, even out of warranty).
Now, keep in mind that I live in Portugal and there is no physical Apple store here. I called Apple international and they referred me to an authorized Apple repair store.
So I sent it in and it took them 2 weeks to fix it. Initially they told me it would take a couple of days. I called every other day and the answer during the first week was that the replacement parts had not arrived yet. During the second week they actually admitted that they forgot about it and they were going to do it right away.
Anyway, they finally called on a monday 2 weeks later but at that time I just got a new job and the store is ~50km from where I live. I told them I would only be able to pick it up on friday.
When I pick it up the battery is DEAD. Completely DEAD. It has an "X" where the battery icon should be and System Profiler says: "REPLACE BATTERY NOW".
I investigated a bit and it seems that you cannot leave li-ion batteries without charging for too long. I called the store and both the receptionist and the boss actually YELLED at me. They were incredibly rude and at one point the receptionist even hung up on me! If you knew me, you'd know I don't raise my voice. Believe me when I tell you I did not freak out on them. I spoke very calmly and asked how we could solve this issue.
They claimed I took too long to pick it up and thus the battery dropped below an acceptable level.
So I called Apple International and told them everything that happened, including how rude this authorized repair store had been. They heard everything and apologized for what I had gone through and told me that they would get back to me the next day.
Apple indeed called me the next day. All they would say is: "I'm sorry, this is not our responsability. It was done by a repair store other than the official store. I replied: "but you don't have a physical store here! In fact, you TOLD me to go to that store".
Their response: "I'm sorry, I am not able to help you".
Me: "But you.." -- he cuts me off: "I'm sorry sir, I cannot help you".
Me: FINE. *hangs up*
This was a few months ago. I still have not bought a new battery :(
