'Slavery the Game' revealed as a viral ad for Dutch TV history series
Sep 7th 2011 9:08PM (Joystiq)Oh I am definitely of the American persuasion, and I agree wholeheartedly that we as Americans are definitely over sensitive about our own history. If we can't learn from the past, we're doomed to repeat it, or at least make egregious mistakes similar. However, at no point should we take this history so seriously that we can't even satirize it without someone having a shitfit about it.

Call of Duty XP Event: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition priced at $99.99
Sep 3rd 2011 1:30PM (Joystiq)Except for all the other kinda cool stuff you get. That all costs money as well, even if you don't want it, in which case you could pay the $63 (after tax) and then the $50 or whatever it is for Elite, and STILL be paying more than the Hardened.
But nice math you pulled out there, I guess?
GameStop pulls Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC versions from shelves
Aug 24th 2011 8:25PM (Joystiq)Okay, I know, probably going to get downvoted for defending the Ol Game$top, but here it goes;
What they did is NOT A BIG DEAL. Who here actually uses OnLive? Who here would use OnLive for a game that they already own? Who here would use OnLive for a game that they already have a non-transferable save for on their home machine?
Good, now that there are no hands raised, lets get into the ethical problems of what Gamestop did. Gamestop has every right to defend their ability to push their games on the consumer. Though what they did was shady, it is by no means illegal. SqEnix put a coupon for a competing company in their game, and did not inform Gamestop or any other retailer of what they did. That in of itself is more shady than anything Gamestop did.
This would be like if Walmart was selling something that included a coupon for the exact same item for free at Target. People would probably buy the Walmart item, then return it after they took the coupon out and used it for the free item.
In this case, Gamestop doesn't take returns on used PC games, but that doesn't mean that the allegory doesn't apply; the fact is, they were selling something that drove their customers away from them in the end; truly they made their money no matter what, but who knows who might have found that OnLive thing and thought "Hey, shit yeah, i'll never go to Gamestop again! I can just rent and play online with little install time/down time! Huzzah!"
Tl;Dr; Stop complaining, like any of you are going to use OnLive now anyways.
