Today's most on-tempo video: Eternal Sonata trailer

Apr 29th 2007 2:12PM (Joystiq)
Because Jspanese gamers still refuse to trust the XBox, that's why.

Still, this looks quite lovely. The story is incredibly meloncholy, but the entire thing has an adorable, happy, perky chibi art style. And I do like the monster designs so far. Now let's just hope the battle system is worthwhile, because I'm getting really tired of the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest-esque same old same old.

Reuters: The guitar is killing your relationship

Is this author for real? Who the heck was he STUDYING? Gamer wisdom (and experience) states that the more interactive and "fun" controllers are EASIER to get your non-gaming significant other (or your non-gaming anybody) into, while the more hardcore but less "invasive" controllers are a turn-off. I mean, hasn't DDR (and to a lesser extent Karaoke Revolution) been a massive hit in the casual crowd, which contains a much higher significant portion of female members than the hardcore set does? Personally, I'm looking forward to the Wii Guitar Hero, whenever it comes out, and I can't wait to own a nerdy GH guitar controller.

In my opinion, "weird" gaming pariphenalia is not the problem. Rather, it's soul-stealing MMO's that are the problem. If your significant other is glued to a computer screen during their every waking moment, even if you happen to play too, it becomes frustrating. This is regardless of whether or not you're a gaming couple. I speak from experience: My SO and I both play the same MMORPG, but whereas I play a few times a week for a couple of hours, he's practically attached at the hip to the freakin' thing. So take my advice, folks: If you're going to play an MMO and you have a girlfriend/boyfriend, make sure you're not obsessed with it (or you're both equally obsessed), and don't do anything stupid.

Sony's Phil Harrison: no pressure to drop PS3 price

Mostly just a nitpick, but:

Say what you will about Perfect Dark and Kameo, but have you actually played Viva Pinata? I haven't yet (though I want to), especially since the critical consensus on it is that it's excellent. Check out Metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/vivapinata

GameCube gets vasectomy; no longer reproducing

I don't think purple hardware is so bad. It's only slightly annoying when you have no other colors available. There never was a blue 'Cube, was there? Sigh... Ah well. I still loves me little indigo lunch box.

Viva Pinata for DS could be a reality

Please, Rare? Pretty please? Viva Pinata looks sooo good, but I don't have the money for a 360. I'll be your best frieeeend.

Women's Health Mag: Grab your man's joystick

Jan 15th 2007 11:50AM (Joystiq)
My boyfriend and I met when he shyly came up and asked me if that was Animal Crossing: WW I was playing, and if I might want to play with him. Cute, huh? We're both big-time Nintendo fanatics, although I'm currently eyeing a Wii60 combo (Viva Pinata and GoW are enticing me) and my boyfriend has a PS2 and a PSP. At the onset of Twilight Princess, we had a lengthy discussion over whether or not the Wii version or the GC version was more "hardcore." Well, he's got one and I've got the other, and we've found nothing definative yet. XD Neither of us plays much in the way of MMORPGs, but we still do love our PC games. We're both eagerly anticipating Portal and Spore, and oddly enough, he's the big Sims fan and not me. XD

Our current gaming hot topic are Chao from the Sonic Adventure games. We never really play the main games, just the Chao gardens... Heh.

Wii's a babe magnet, says Men's Health

Oct 27th 2006 3:37PM (Joystiq)
"30. That's good news considering actual Nintendo fanboys are babe repellent."

Hmmm... I'd say that's a no-go, considering the reason I first met my current boyfriend was over some Nintendo games. And we're both Zelda fanatics. Heh.

Okami videos that will make you drool

If I had the money to blow on a PS2, I'd do it for this. Gorgeous game. Cel-shading hasn't been so wonderfully done since good ol' Wind Waker. And I have to say, I'm a sucker for any game where drawing is part of the gameplay. Kirby Canvas Curse? Sold. Graffiti Kingdom? So there! I even own Amazing Island...

The Final Fantasy Wedding March

Jul 22nd 2006 6:28PM (Joystiq)
I don't plan on marrying anyone but a Grade A Geeklord, so this sounds like something that could concievably happen at my future wedding. Actually, I think the Earthbound theme (He's talking about the Sound Stone melody, right?) is very pretty, and both joyous and somber at the same time. And PancakesHouse - Zelda, Queen, AND Lord of the Rings? Whoa, the sheer awesome geekiness of it has me duly impressed! *starts humming* Ooooh, love, there he goes again, oooh, loverbooooy...
